Off Season Discussion #1-Everyone's Most Intriguing OOC Games - RamblinRedWolf - 03-20-2019 04:07 AM

https://fbschedules.com/sun-belt-football-schedule/

Appalachian State: @ North Carolina
If I were a Tar Heel fan I'd sure as hell be nervous about this game; should be a great big vs little brother battle

Arkansas State: SMU
The Ponies spanked Astate in Dallas in 2006 and in 2017; Red Wolves got their retribution the first time around in the return game in Jonesboro back in 2007;here's hoping for a repeat again this season

Coastal Carolina: @ Kansas
I was tempted to go with Umass as the Chants will be going up against our former OC Walt Bell but gotta go with the match up against the Mad Hatter in Lawerence.

Georgia State: Army
The Black Knights have gone 29-9 the last three seasons; it'll be a huge challenge for the Panthers but would be a great win at home for the program and the league.

Georgia Southern: @ New Mexico State
With the exception of the 2015 game (a blow out victory for Southern) the last five games between the Eagles and the Aggies have been sneaky fun shoot outs, with the average combined score being nearly 66 points a game.

Louisiana: Mississippi State (@ the Superdome)
We all know how massive Cajun nation was during their NO Bowl run and it'll be very interesting to see if they'll show up in droves for this virtual home game against a solid SEC West foe.

ULM: Memphis
Once again the Warhawks have among the toughest slate in the league, and they'll need to play lights out at home if they want to score the upset against a solid Tiger program. This was a surprisingly high scoring affair in near monsoon conditions back in 2017.

South Alabama: @UAB
The beginning of a home and home deal between the two in state rivals, the Jags have a great opportunity to make some early noise if they can knock off defending CUSA Champs and current darling of the G5 World the Blazers in Birmingham.

Troy: @ Missouri
Mizzou fans will probably always feel a cold shutter down their spines whenever Troy pops onto their schedule (just ask Brad Smith why). The Trojans have been the giant killers in the 'Belt the last two seasons, can they continue the legend killing streak?

Texas State: Wyoming
The beginning of the Jake Spavital era in San Marcos will begin when the Bobcats host the Cowboys; it would certainly be quite the debut if he could lead his Texas State squad against a founding member of the Mountain West Conference.

Our game against Minnesota is much more intriguing than our game vs NMSU.

exactly what I was thinking. Minnesota is a very winnable P5 game for us.

I would be disappointed if we don’t beat the heels, it’s a game we should win.

We play NMSU at home, but like EW and NC said, Minnesota would be the most intriguing for this year. History shows when we play a non-blueblood Power 5 and aren't having a down year (meaning not a losing season) we compete.

Minnesota is a solid team, but I don’t think the overall talent gap is that much better than GS. I don’t know if GS will win, but it would be disappointing if it’s not a competitive game with a chance GS wins it at the end.

I agree with Wyoming for TXST. We probably get smoked by Texas A&M in week 1 if we're being realistic. Wyoming at home in week 2 should be a very competitive matchup.

RE: Off Season Discussion #1-Everyone's Most Intriguing OOC Games - Bobcat2013 - 03-20-2019 10:01 AM

I'd say SMU is more intriguing for us. A winnable in-state G5 game, what's not to love?

It's a lot less winnable than Wyoming....

If Satt was back and/or Fedora was still there I'd agree. But I'm going to stay humble until I know what the 2019 version of App looks like ... Don't underestimate the "Mack" factor either. The fan base is revitalized. All the Heels have been missing past two years is a QB, as the other talent is there. If they find them 1 by week 3 (or 4), it will be a tough game for sure. Really need a lot of App nation to make the game as well.

Maybe, but it's in state, that always piques our fans interest.

After seeing Minnesota whoop up on Paul Johnson's Tech team a few months ago, and knowing they return a lot this season, I'm not so sure of our chances, though I'd still say it is our most intriguing match up.

NMSU is at home this year, not on the road. They have trouble playing in Paulson when our team has an actual coach.

I agree with both x and 2013... neck and neck between the two.

Wyoming is more winnable especially in the early stages of learning the new offense, but SMU is in state, and that's... "special" to us.

A&M just got a lot less intriguing to me moving to Thursday...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sooooo we get out azzzz kicked on a Thursday night instead of a Saturday afternoon.

And to add insult to injury, we'll receive our beat down before a National Audience on The SEC Network.

If Spav's on his game, then I think we could have a shot at both SMU and Wyoming. I could be overly optimistic . . . ..

RE: Off Season Discussion #1-Everyone's Most Intriguing OOC Games - _x_ - 03-20-2019 07:12 PM

I'm just less intrigued cause my chances of going went from about 99% to about 50%.

Can't really get a good gauge by the GT game.

The players knew all the coaches were gone after that game and everything was going to be completely different under the new guy, so I'm not exactly sure how motivated they were. They really didn't play inspired at all.

Minnesota won't be a pushover, but I'm not really hanging much on that game.

I get that, probably a downer for fans on both sides. Gotta think it's a blessing for players though . . . on field temps in that bowl (specially if a breeze is lacking) in August for a day game, could top 110 degrees easy . . .

RE: Off Season Discussion #1-Everyone's Most Intriguing OOC Games - _x_ - 03-20-2019 09:00 PM

Who says it would've been a day game?

RE: Off Season Discussion #1-Everyone's Most Intriguing OOC Games - CardinalBlackTrojan - 03-20-2019 09:40 PM

I thought Troy had a legit chance to go and beat Mizzou this coming season, but then they landed that QB from Clemson... so I'm not so sure anymore. He's a good one that can be a game changer for them.
