7 teams with 20+ wins and .600+ win percent, maybe next year we get 6-7 teams in the big DANCE.

Yeah, they've noticed the "Pwe6r" campaign but some people in sports are just clueless about what comes out of their mouths... don't think for second that just because they make a living from sports they actually understand all of the sports that they cover.

Gumble has always been overrated in my opinion... Heard and saw way too much of him over the years here in NYC... even when he was affiliated with the local NBC Network.

We did just land a $7M/school contract that separates us from any G4 school.

You don't think Aresco might have slipped in the P6 narrative as part of the contract negotiation if they want our content?

Cbs uses p6 as p5 plus BE

I guess I've been completely oblivious, not surprisingly. I've just never heard "Power 6" outside of AAC Officials and recognized by National Broadcasters.

Yeah, you’ve been completely oblivious.

Because no one has ever used it before that way.

This was a clear message to the AAC, it even came with a graphic. Before this it had always been P5 and the Big East, Major conferences, or the major seven.

Sunday on national OTA network with huge numbers of people watching, CBS took a term made by the AAC to promote our conference as being equal, applied it to the conference we split from, owned by a direct competitor no less, and pushed us down to mid major status, in the one sport that the term definitely does not fit us.

Not sure if they could make it much clearer what their feelings towards us are right now.

Here is an important question, how hard is it to negotiate a 6-8 game basketball deal? The ESPN deal finished a month ago. We need over a month to work out this 6-8 game deal?

Funny Google finds 2 references, once each in two articles one of which is March 6, 2019.
For cbs.

I can find nothing for ESPN or Fox using the p6 term for anything but our football. I watched the vast majority of the cbssports march madness special and not once was the term used again on selection Sunday.

So perhaps you have a link for this well established use? Or for the thread discussions which I also couldn't find.

RE: *** NIT ROUND 1**** - shocks21 - 03-20-2019 09:58 PM

It was interesting listening to Furman’s coach talk about us in his press conference Monday (or Tuesday?). He mentioned the graphic that CBS posted about the “power 6” conferences and said something along the lines of it being ridiculous, because everybody knows that the American is a high major basketball conference. Nice to hear.

Well, I guess this high major basketball conference will continue to dominate Furman on their home court. What does their mascot look like again? I never saw one.

We just got a $7M/school media deal for a reason.

Onward we march the AAC Flag into Round 2.

Don't know about FOX... ESPiN, YahooSports, and BleacherReport have used the term "Big 6" to refer to top basketball conferences.

ESPN has referred to the AAC as a "Major" basketball conference as of late.
