Buffalo gets the highest MAC seed ever according to CBS (although Toledo got a 5th seed in 1979-research?). Interesting 1st round scenarios Hurley ASU-UB matchup or the all New York St Johns-Buffalo one.
Toledo gets the first MAC NIT at large since that tourney went to the new system. Tough road game at Xavier on Wednesday. Winner likely gets Texas.
CMU gets a better than expected matchup with Depaul in the CBI, a field that has W Virginia, South Florida, UAB, Southern Miss and a couple up and coming mid majors in Grand Canyon, and Cal Baptist
Kent plays Louisiana-Monroe on the road in the CIT, a tourney I can;t quite figure out.
Don't think BG is playing post season ball, but certainly had a good run for a team picked last in the east.
Women's brackets come out tomorrow.

Here is an an article from 2017 about how the NCAA distributes the profit from the tourney.
It might sound complicated, but it is very simple in terms of math.
A conference earns a "Unit" for each game it plays in the tourney. The unit counts for six years. It is a 'rolling system.' Add the most recent tourney appearances and delete the tourney appearances from six years ago. Each unit is now worth say a little more than 1.75M. Have to divide by six, though, as the units are paid over a 6 year period.
Take the MAC: 2013 - 1 unit, 2014 - 1 unit, 2015 - 1 unit, 2016 - 1 unit, 2017 - 1 unit and 2018 -TWO units (Thank you, Buffalo). Seven units divided by six or 7 /6th of a unit.
Say, UB wins their first game and then loses. For the 2020 tourney, we'd drop 2013 and add 2019. So that would be 8 /6th of a unit. Delete 2013 - 1 unit and add 2019 - 2 units.

If a unit is worth say $1.75M (maybe a little more) this year, then the MAC would receive 7 / 6 x 1.75M
Say next year a unit might be worth 2M (to keep things simple) the MAC would get 8 / 6 x 2M

When did the format change? Ohio got an NIT at-large in 2013.

Looking at the CIT I'd have to think numerous MAC teams turned down bids. Kent is probably the best team in that field.

Maybe there was no away around it this time. But I thought those alphabet soup tourneys tried to keep the match-ups as local/regional as much as possible.

If an athletic department is looking to save a few bucks, these are understandably the first on the chopping block.

Maybe hindsight but the CIT is a very weak tourney (weaker than the CBI) so there is a chance for a good MAC team to do well there.
That said, I would guess, 20-20 analysis, is that a MAC team might have played Marshall or WI-GB.

I think even though a 2 seed in the conf tourney, Ohio was a co-champion of the league and received an auto-bid.
Men’s NIT only gives the 1 seed the auto bid should they lose the conference tourney. Not the same as the women’s NiT.

The thing about the CIT is it's pay-to-play ... hosting costs more than traveling, but of course it's basketball, and the home team has an advantage on the court.
If the MAC wanted to reward the best two teams not making the Tourney/NIT, they could help them with hosting costs for the first two rounds of the CIT/CBI out of the Basketball units and have at least a better possibility of picking up postseason tournament experience that might help boost the performance of the MAC in future years.

I agree with this. Matter of fact, as we will be getting 8 units, instead, of 6, for the 5 years (I think that is correct as we get 7 units this year), then toss in the value of the extra unit(s) into a basketball fund to help with CBI/CIT costs, if teams want to play in those tournies.
