That was before 4 starting teammates left.

Was it this quote? This is from April 25; teammates were in the portal at this point but had not left. The quote doesn’t seem to consider transferring and procuring a waiver, which is no sure thing.

Feel sorry for Wright-Foreman who didn't get a Combine invite. At least he has a chance to get it through the G League Elite Camp.

Incredulous to me that UCLA has three Combine invites (two sophs, one fresh), and yet, Alford could barely muster a winning record and no post season.

The combine is set up for high major players, a handful of high schoolers, NOT mid majors. Yes you will see guys like Ja Morant who’s a lottery pick or Dylan Windler (projected 2nd rounder) who led Belmont to the NCAA tournament invited, but other like JWF and Nate get G-League Elite and/or individual workouts for teams. Assuming mid major players that don’t get drafted are destined to play in Europe is a poor assumption as well (heck look Burchfield and Dixon).

The combine is used as much to weed guys “out” as it does rank the top guys. Which is why you see high major underclassman chose over mid majors as well.

Nate participating in a pre-draft workout for the Sacramento Kings.

His second one with them.

Should get info on Nathan any day now...final date to declare is May 28th.

He’s gone (or at least he should be). He can always come back to finish his degree after he’s made a nice living overseas.

For me, it's a tough call. If he has NBA aspirations after this feeling-out workout period, his best chance is to return for his senior season. He isn't getting drafted this year. IMO, his chances of going to the NBA decline if he goes to the G-League or Europe. He would have to completely stand out against professional athletes to even get a sniff. Not impossible, but unlikely. If he feels that the NBA isn't the ultimate goal and starting to earn a living right away is where he wants to be, than leaving is the wise move. If earning a degree is important, I'd argue tha staying gives him his best chance at next year's draft, puts a paid in full W&M degree in his pocket, and he wouldnt lose any of the pro opportunities that he has now. The only downside is the lost earnings for the one season of delaying going pro. There is, of course, the always present chance of injury. But that would be there pro or not and I'm pretty sure contracts aren't guaranteed oversees.

He's not leaving early to go play overseas. Not sure why anyone thinks that would happen.

This wasn't his second one with them. It was the Kings' second pre-draft workout, and Nate's first with them.

I’d like to appreciate Nate for what he is....one of the best, if not the best Tribe player of all time! We all agree it would be awesome for the program if Nate returns next year. However, a basketball career is finite, while he can always get his degree. If an NBA team latches on and he accepts, I wish him nothing but the best. However this plays out, thanks for representing the Tribe family in a very positive way throughout your career!!!

Any news on Nate's decision? I think he only has until 5/29 to withdraw his name from the NBA draft and return to W&M.

No publicly released official decision, though I'd be surprised if the coaches don't already know what Nate's plans are.

NATHAN KNIGHT - mrjoolius - 05-28-2019 07:30 AM

May 29 (11:59pm): NCAA early entrant withdrawal deadline

College underclassmen who want to retain their NCAA eligibility will have to withdraw their names from the draft pool by May 29. NBA rules call for a later withdrawal deadline, but the NCAA has its own set of rules that say the deadline is 10 days after the combine.

As such, a college underclassmen could technically wait until the first week of June to withdraw from the draft and retain his NBA draft eligibility for a future year. However, he would forfeit his amateur status in that scenario, making him ineligible to return to his NCAA squad.

So I guess today we find out if Knight is coming back? Best of luck to him with whatever path he follows. One of the best players to ever put on a W&M jersey.

Nathan will return for his senior season, per his Instagram.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - nj alum - 05-29-2019 12:09 PM

Just feed him the ball and tell him to stay out of foul trouble, and not defend anything on the three point line or beyond!

This news does make next year semi-interesting.

In and out game between Nathan and Andy has potential of scoring 50-60 ppg.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - Tribeguy1960 - 05-29-2019 12:09 PM

And all of a sudden this team looks much more scary...
