Brantley

All deserving. All good teams

So Brantley and Pusica get credit for having better teammates?

yes they do, and that's as it should be !!

If that's the argument then Pusica and Brantley should be replaced by Hofstra starters. Same with Riller.

This isn't a team award. The team award is the big banner they hand out.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - TribePride91 - 02-18-2019 05:52 PM

With at most 4 games to go: In order:

JWF
Knight
Riller
Cacok
Pusica

The only argument is on Pusica, but he is a great player and when he doesn't play, Northeastern is no where near as good. If he had played the whole year, he might be 2 or 3. Brantley can be on the 2nd team. There really isn't anyone else besides him that is close to the first team. Justin might get 2nd team.

I love the passion from everyone, it is truly admirable. But when we all look back on this series of posts three years from now, when Nathan Knight is playing in the NBA and these other players who do or don't make All-CAA are playing in Europe, or working in real-world jobs, we will realize how trivial this thread is.

Everything we say here is meaningless. That's the whole point of message boards.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - bubbadog57 - 02-19-2019 05:53 AM

Let's just enjoy Nathan Knight the remainder of this season and next. He's the best center we've ever had
at W&M and getting better.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - Tribe32 - 02-19-2019 07:49 AM

I've been watching the Tribe since the early 70s and can honestly say he's the best center I've ever seen. Let's see how it all ends up next year before we crown him better than Jeff Cohen. Cohen was a brute and an All American. Different era for sure, but his last two seasons he averaged around 24 points and 17 rebounds with no shot clock. And yes.....he shot his free throws underhanded.

!!!!!! I didn't know that. Cool (and smart)!

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - FauqDawg10 - 02-19-2019 04:00 PM

Nate is putting up 22/10/4 in conference play with 2.7 blocks and 59% from the field. Forget the CAA; there are very few players with numbers like that in the country. His PER is crushing the field. I don't think I even understand the argument that he isn't one of the three best players in the conference.

There are 9 players with 22 and 9 in conference play. That's pretty select company. If you add in 2 blocks/game it's Knight and Jakeenan Gant from ULL.

Who is arguing that? The top 3 are clearly a combination of JWF, Cacok and Knight.

Im not arguing it either. Those three are clearly the most dominant players in the CAA.

I think it was discussed earlier in the thread some believe Cacok and Brantley deserve 1st team all conference. It's not possible to have Cacock, Knight, and Brantley on the 1st team is it? Brantley is a fantastic player, but in the pecking order of CAA bigs, he is a 2nd teamer.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - dan10 - 02-20-2019 08:50 AM

I actually do not think the CAA breaks it down by guards and forwards, so it is possible. I believe they can take 3 forwards or 3 guards.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - billymac - 02-20-2019 09:09 AM

Well, it would not be unprecedented to have 6 guys make 1st Team. It has happened twice (I think, due to ties in the voting).

2004: First Team - Domonic Jones, VCU; Alex Loughton, ODU; Adam Hess, W&M; Kenny Adeleke, Hofstra; Phil Goss, Drexel; Jai Lewis, Mason

2016: First Team: Ron Curry, JMU; Chris Flemmings, UNCW; Juan’ya Green, Hofstra; Rokas Gustys, Hofstra; Omar Prewitt, W&M; David Walker, NU

Put all three on.

OK, but with only 5 on the 1st team, who is the odd man out?

Wright-Foreman (12-2) 26.3 ppg - Lock. Player of the Year

Knight (6-8) 20.6 ppg/8.6 rebs/2.1 blocks - Top 5 in most meaningful categories. Sub .500 record.

Riller (10-5) 22 ppg/4 assists - Best player on a 10-5 team.

Cacok (5-10) 15.3 ppg/12 rebs - elite rebounder. Dominant player but with meh stats after rebounds on a sub .500 team

Pusica (10-4) 17.4 ppg/ 4.1 assists - Best player on a 10-4 team. Top 5 scorer and assists

Brantley (10-5) 19.2 ppg/ 8.2 rebs - Stats a little under Nate, but will being a Sr on a strong 10-5 team give him the edge?

Carter (8-7) 16.2 ppg/ 10.1 rebs - Probably 2nd tier, but I put him up as a comparison to Cacok. Nearly identical stats on a slightly better team.

IMO, Cacok is one of the most dominant players in the league, but personal and team statistics wise puts him on the 2nd team.

Oh I agree he is 2nd team, but I was just merely saying they dont have to go 3 guards and could go 3 forwards and bump either Riller or Pusica to 2nd

NATHAN KNIGHT - mrjoolius - 02-20-2019 11:26 AM

That just goes back to my original point on Knight. If he is putting up the best combined stats for a big in the CAA (as well as some of the best nationally). And, he made the final 10 on the Abdul-Jabbar watch list for best big in the entire country. How is there not a concensus that he will make the CAA all-conference 1st team? How many of those guys won't make 1st team in their conference?

Daniel Gafford (Ark) 17ppg/9rebs - projected 1st team all-SEC
Nick Perkins (Buff) 14ppg/8rebs - projected 1st team all-MAC
Nico Carvacho (CO St) 16ppg/13rebs - Not projected preseason
Jessie Govan (Gtown) 18ppg/8rebs - projected 1st team all-big east
Bruno Fernando (UMD) 14ppg/11reb - Not projected preseason
Nick Ward (MI St) 15ppg/7reb - projected 1st team all-big 10
Moses Brown (UCLA) 11ppg/8reb - freshman Not projected preseason
Charles Bassey (WKU) 15ppg/10reb - freshman Not projected preseason
Nathan Knight (W&M) 21ppg/9reb - Not projected preseason
Ethan Happ (WI) 18ppg/10reb - projected 1st team all-big 10

With the exception of Juniors Nico Carvacho and Nathan Knight, all of the others not picked conference preseason 1st team were freshmen and sophomores. Carvacho should make 1st team all-mountain west.

In no world should Nate not make 1st team. This is insane to me.

Your last sentence wonderfully sums up why I started this thread to begin with.

RE: NATHAN KNIGHT - Tribe32 - 02-20-2019 02:31 PM

I'm not sure why everyone wants to assume that players will get voted higher than Knight. IMO, he's the POY if voted honestly by the other coaches. He and JWF are really the only two players who are unstoppable. JWF does almost nothing except score including playing optional defense (like the entire team).

Knight leads his team in scoring, assists, rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage. That's just sick. He has more assists than JWF and Pusica.

Pusica was out a lot early, but hasn't looked that good this year. He's a turnover machine. He shouldn't make the first team.

Wright-Foreman is POY with a unanimous vote. He is the reigning and preseason pick for POY. That holds weight. He has done nothing to disappoint and has lead his team to a 1st place, 20+ win season.

I agree Pusica has been underwhelming in stretches this season. But, can you leave off the 1st team the top player from one of the better teams? I don't know if you can. He, too, carries some preseason political muscle as well.

I don't think the league has the stones, but the most underwhelming stats of the contenders belong to Cacok. Sure, his rebounding numbers are grand, but the numbers he's put up for an average team don't raise eyebrows. I love Cacok and his physical game. It just doesn't measure up.
