RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:37 PM

Harp was called for the foul and immediately went to the bench. It has been upgraded to a flagrant 1

Delaware still hot shooting and raining open 3's. Up 12 and at the line

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:38 PM

Makes 1 of 2 and get the ball back. Dumb play by Harper out of frustration

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:38 PM

Delaware now on 16-2 run

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:40 PM

U4 timeout 35-24 after a short 4-0 run by us. Need to finish this half strong

Maybe I missed something, but it looked entirely like an accident. I guess after the refs looked at it 30 times, they saw something differently.

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:45 PM

We score out of the timeout and have a nice defensive stand in the zone, followed by a Coltrane 3. 9-0 run down to 6. Timeout Delaware

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:46 PM

Definitely a game of runs. They are getting open corner 3's all day. They have hit a few so far.

RE: @Delaware - J.B. - 01-26-2019 02:50 PM

Another Drexel opponent pretending that they're the Golden State Warriors.

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 02:52 PM

Halftime Delaware leads 44-33 after they hit another to end the half

Delaware is 9-14 from 3. 59% overall shooting for the Chickens. They are also up 5 in rebounds, though I felt like we rebounded better than they did. We just missed more shots. Another big comeback potentially but I can't see Delaware continuing to shoot this hot from 3 either.

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 03:20 PM

Timeout Drexel. Butler playing strong defense and we are forcing turnovers, but cant convert those into points. Need to find a way to attack the basket and get points at the rim. Everything has been iso attacks that end in a forced shot at the rim. Down 53-40 just under 14 left

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 03:25 PM

58-45 UD U12 timeout. Need to do something different here. Defense isnt bad but we are giving them 2nd chances and they are capitalizing on those chances.

RE: @Delaware - The Grape King - 01-26-2019 03:48 PM

Drexel cannot get a break with the officials.

RE: @Delaware - The Grape King - 01-26-2019 03:49 PM

Also this 1-3-1 matchup zone was real interesting

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 04:02 PM

Delaware tried hard to lose. Drexel made a run but too many stops without scoring to get close. Down 4 with a minute to go not sure why we started bombing 3's. Delaware was turning it over like crazy, it made no sense. Demir took 1 and John took 2 or 3. Was silly.

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 04:03 PM

John hits a crazy off balance 3 to get within 1 and delaware shooting 1/1 with 2 seconds. Misses the first and we travel before the halfcourt heave. We will lose 76-75. A lot of Delaware turnovers late and the last minute we let them win by shooting 3's when it was not needed

RE: @Delaware - dan10 - 01-26-2019 04:07 PM

With all that said, we did not deserve to win this game. We played poor on offense throughout. We were not well composed. Delaware shot well. Our defense played reasonably well. We gave up open looks but they worked hard to make Delaware get their shots. Delaware made a lot of turnover, especially late, but we really did not make them pay until the late flurry. We cannot make defensive stops or get turnovers and come up empty as often as we did and expect to win. Not a terrible loss, but a team we really should beat.

RE: @Delaware - J.B. - 01-26-2019 04:08 PM

This was your typical Drexel game, especially on the road. Play terrible defense for most of the game and allow their opponent to shoot lights out from 3-point range. Keep the game within 6-13 points most of the way. Once it appears that Drexel will fall to a convincing defeat, they make a furious comeback, but still fall just short.

That turned out to be a big call. I was watching Hofstra and was shocked by the final. You were down 14 with 5 minutes left. I hope when Hofstra goes to you the last week, Hofstra wins by at least 1.

Elon leads 36-19 at UNCW! Steven Santa Ana and Tyler Seibring have combined for 21, and all of their misses were threes. Elon has blown leads before, but this a big one.

Nobody wanted to win this game. Its really a tough outcome. That would have been a huge win for us. The officiating was HORRIBLE. Like some of the worst that I have seen.

That said, Delaware gifted us 15 turnovers in the second half. Drexel scored 23 points off of 21 Delaware turnovers. The previous high for turnovers by an opponent in the Spiker era was 19 in the double OT game against Towson. La Salle had 18, both games in 2016-17. College Basketball Reference has game logs going back to the 2010-11 season. No Drexel opponent has given up 20 or more turnovers in that time frame.

We SHOULD have won that game. We didn't want it enough.

RE: @Delaware - hiroshimacarp - 01-26-2019 08:01 PM

i didn't have a problem with the effort outside of harper. spiker seemed to be keeping him under control until today. he really hurt us with those two intentional fouls (or flagrant whatever) that were purely out of frustration. he was whining all game about not getting fouls but refs aren't going to give you calls if you're falling away. i got a little tired of the play where we ran him straight down the lane...but i guess spiker figures he's our best option right now.

my feeling on the game is we took a jv team down there and still almost won. we were smaller, less skilled, and less athletic. spiker made some good adjustments with the press in the second half. you could argue he could've done it sooner. i think he was trying to use his depth to wear them down and it almost worked.

i'm excited to see what spiker can do if he gets a player like allen...long, athletic, and can shoot. you have to give delaware credit for their ball movement in the first half and they knocked down open shots. they didn't let us run either. we don't have anything reliable right now so we have to give ourselves a chance with effort and being a little smarter. everything is easier if we keep building our roster with talent.
