Flu - Bruce Monnin - 01-12-2019 12:59 PM

Any word on if the flu bug has gotten worse, or hopefully has run its course through the basketball team?

If Cronin can coach defense so well, why can’t he defend against the flu?

Wake up sheeple!

Flu shots work. If the team wasn't inoculated, why?

RE: Flu - bearcatjim - 01-12-2019 06:26 PM

People call everything “flu” but the flu shot only works against the actual flu, which is likely NOT what the team has been passing around.

RE: Flu - Racinejake - 01-12-2019 07:02 PM

Flu shot also does not prevent against all strains of flu. But typically lessens the severity and duration.

RE: Flu - Bruce Monnin - 01-12-2019 07:19 PM

Never had a flu shot.

Never had the flu.

Someday I will pay.

RE: Flu - Bearcats#1 - 01-12-2019 07:48 PM

Flu shots only really work if the shot is for the strain that hits you. If not, you can forget it.

RE: Flu - Bearcats#1 - 01-12-2019 07:48 PM

Also...does the team have the flu or not. I want to know the built in excuses I can expect prior to the game.

RE: Flu - Bruce Monnin - 01-12-2019 07:55 PM

How can Dan Hoard interview Cronin and not ask about the flu. Or is it just not giving information to the enemy?

I work for a hospital that requires flu shots. Half of my team has had thir flu this year so far. It isn't a 100% solution.

Maybe you aren't able to be vaccinated, but if you are and choose not to you're hurting those who can't (e.g. compromised immune systems, babies).

RE: Flu - bearcatjim - 01-12-2019 11:06 PM

I used to get the flu shot every single year. Never had any issue. Then 3 years ago, I had a terrible complication from it. Won’t get it again. It’s not side effect free for everyone, every time.

RE: Flu - crex043 - 01-12-2019 11:14 PM

We know what are percentages are on foul shots, 2 pt shots, and 3 pt shots. Apparently our flu shot percentage is around our 3 pt shot percentage.

RE: Flu - JackieTreehorn - 01-12-2019 11:36 PM

I think there was also a GI issue going around the team as well. Noticed that Hardnett and Diarra didn't even dress tonight.

RE: Flu - Ragpicker - 01-13-2019 10:52 AM

One flu shot in my life around 1992. Worse case of the flu ever two weeks later.

I've been off the needle now 26 years.

RE: Flu - doss2 - 01-13-2019 11:34 AM

In 1992 the vaccines were quite different. Did the shot give you the flu? Unlikely. More likely your immune system had not fully developed the antibodies or you got a strain not in the vaccine.

In 1992 all flu vaccines were egg based produced now there are two other methods. Recombinant DNA and cell based.

I expressed this opinion to my brother (a biology professor) over Thanksgiving. He responded by buying me the following shirt for Christmas:

While the display of folk wisdom about the flu vaccine is great, this is my favorite comment in this thread.

Ha! Nice. I’m not an anti-vaxer. Just know my experience and not willing to risk it again. I think it’s a small percentage of people that have adverse reactions, including child onset autism. I was willing to chance that with my kids as they are all vaccinated. But if you think the risks are zero, I’m sorry but that’s not true.

In other words, some of them had colds.
