Indy as a Conference - Ewglenn - 01-09-2019 05:22 PM

What if the Indy conference did this:

Allow ND and Texas to keep their revenue
Add Texas and UConn
Army keeps CBSN tie
LFSN produces all of the conferences remaining games and ESPN gets all the content

This allows the entire conference to get what they would want. Army, ND and Texas keep their contracts and all other schools get more air time.

How I saw it was:

ND
Liberty
UCONN
Army

Texas
UMASS
NMSU
BYU

Allow Texas and ND to do essientally whatever they want and gives the winner of the title game a legit shot at the playoff. Title game played at the Titans stadium in Nashville. It also allows those schools more access in a sourthern market. All others get exposure and the opportunity to partner with Texas, ND and BYU. Sounds like a win across the board to me. What do y’all think?

Notre Dame, Texas, and BYU would never go for that. They would want the scheduling flexibility. Were you suggesting those teams schedule each other annually? For that matter, I’m not certain we’d go for that either.

It would be a 4 game conference schedule so everyone would be able to schedule who they wanted to. For example ND would have 4 games here plus the 5 ACC and 3 remaining of who they want. That would allow them to get the 13th game they want plus keeping the money from their tv contract

Notre Dame would never go for this. The "conference" would eat away their schedule flexibility by making their three remaining games against Stanford, USC, and Navy.

Texas and Notre Dame don't want to play any of these schools with a minor exception to Army by ND. If Texas wanted to play BYU more often then BYU would be in the Big 12. I think Texas has enough sway to get that if they wanted it.

I just think there are too many hurdles. Take the top two out and there may be something for the remaining schools. BYU may not want to be apart either if they aren't a Power school. UConn would be tough unless they get into the Big East in all other sports.

Maybe if some schools moved up as independents and had some contracts in hand for schedules, the NCAA would allow it. A group of Dakota and Montana schools, maybe JMU (long shot) or EKU.

No way in hades it does. You’re making a conference of G5’s plus ND and Texas. You’d have to play a seven game conference schedule (true round robin) to have a CCG and the conference RPI would be in the cellar.

No way that happens.
