Troy HC discussion - Atlanta Trojan - 01-05-2019 08:02 AM

I’ve heard Tony Gibson (WVU DC) is interested in the job. As well as Butch Jones (current associate HC at Maryland) has interest in the job.

I’m sure we will similar names as last time for the job opening as well.

Fairly certain Jon Sumrall (Troy LB and Assistant HC from 2015-2017) who currently on staff at Ole miss will get a serious look as well as John Scharman (OL coach at Troy from 2007-2012) who’s currently OL coach at UK.

Gibson is interested in lots of jobs. He’s had someone with juice really believing in him and getting his name out there. He was interested in our HC job both times of your believe the tea leaves

Will Hall would be a good hire for Troy. He’s Tulane’s current OC. He has experience in the Sun belt as Hudspeths last OC, he’s familiar with Alabama since he was the HC at North Alabama.

He wouldn’t be a flashy hire, but the man knows football and how to game plan. He is a young good coach.

Yes I keep seeing Gibson come up in a lot of G5 coaching openings. His agent is certainly casting a wide net but Big 12 DC's are not in high demand it seems.

Any thoughts about John Grass?

Ive known Gibson for years, we grew up in the same county in WV but went to different HS and Gibson is a little older than me.

Gibson started coaching HS in 1995 and has been at WVU in some capacity since 1997. So he has been though Rich Rod, Bill Stewart and Dana Holgorsen. His name has been out there for a few years but I think the only serious look he has received was from Bowling Green.

I do think Gibson has the ambition to be a HC and think he could be a good one.

As far as talking DC in the B12. I know for a fact that Holgorsen was a mico manager and every play that was called either on O- or D- had to go though him. I think Gibson could have been much more effective had DH stayed out of his playcalling.

He might be interviewed but he’s likely not in the top 3... as many have mentioned he can’t get it done in playoffs and the OVC is a crap conference.

If Troy plays this right, you could get a reputation as a spring board for coaches, like Boise. That would be a very good thing for you.

RE: Troy HC discussion - T2003 - 01-05-2019 02:20 PM

According to WVU info CNB is taking our DC + DL/OL/QB coaches with him.

@App St fans: Who are the other coaches Satterfield is taking with him to Louisville?

Also, who else did your AD consider before hiring Drinkwitz?

RE: Troy HC discussion - Atlanta Trojan - 01-05-2019 03:23 PM

All signs seem to be pointing to Jon Sumrall

RE: Troy HC discussion - JoeJag - 01-05-2019 03:31 PM

Terry Bowden, Larry Fedora, or Bobby Petrino are possible candidates. Any interest?

Absolutely not. Are you kidding? We have no interest in being the wayward football coaches rehabilitation program.

Maybe not, but just think what Petrino could do with all of that talent. That is, before he springboarded off to another gig.

Really cool of him to do, and great job by the admin letting him come out and do it.

Neal Brown is very well liked. Even the most critical fan spoke good of him most the time.

It's worth kicking the tires on Brian Bohannon.

App fans were interested in the Bama WR coach to the point of FlightAware. Dwayne Ledford (new Lville OL coach) and a bunch of Satt tree guys.

Satt took half the staff: DC Bryan Brown (who I thought could have been head coac), DL Dale Jones, AHC Mark Ivey (NOLA Bowl coach), QB Frank Ponce and co-OC/OL Stu Holt along with the S&C guy who got results but no one liked.

The other half of the staff (Watts, Gasparato, Smith and ???) stayed, but one was let go by
