I'll go ahead and say you aren't in it. But mine would have a couple of far flung teams with Boise and Air Force. The rest are a combination of CUSA and AAC schools. I wouldn't take any of the Sun Belt schools. It would strong in Football and Basketball and have a couple of service academies. RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams - HerdZoned - 01-04-2019 02:08 PM Realistic choices after 2023 when Texas, Oklahoma leave the B12 and take Oklahoma State and Kansas with them. That mean Cincy, Memphis, the Florida twins and maybe Houston get poached by the misfits left if it be 5 or 6 in the B12. North Marshall WKU MTSU ECU ODU FAU/Temple South Southern Miss UAB Appy State GA Southern LA Tech Tulane If and when Texas and the crew sail off to the PAC whatever or the PAC splits in two which could happen, I think at that time UConn puts their basketball in the BE and gives up the dream of IA and goes back to IAA. Because no conference will give them a football only. RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams - HogDawg - 01-04-2019 02:12 PM For LA Tech: WEST: Memphis Houston Tulsa USM LA Tech Tulane SMU Rice or UNT (if they get baseball) EAST: ECU Marshall Temple USF UCF WKU Cincinnati UCONN In football, every team plays 7 division games, and 2 annual crossovers that rotate annually. In basketball, every team plays everybody once for 15 conference games. UConn basketball still has value, especially if Hurley turns them around, so I could see them finding a landing spot in another G5 conference in exchange for guaranteed men's and women's hoops games. My dream G5 conference: ODU JMU Charlotte ECU Temple UConn Buffalo Marshall WKU Middle Tennessee VCU (non-football) Buffalo's the one I'm unsure about — am I overrating them because they're having good football and basketball this season to go with solid academics, or do I really like them? I definitely take them over UMass, but if UConn really wanted them I'd relent. I could also consider App State and one of the Georgia schools over WKU/Middle Tennessee to tighten the footprint but I think that'd be my 10/11 right now. RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams - pilot172000 - 01-04-2019 02:27 PM I am gonna go small with 8 teams and a New Years Bowls against each other somewhere neutral. Gulf Coast Conference 1. Louisiana Tech 2. Rice 3. Houston 4. USM 5. Tulsa 6. Tulane 7. SMU 8. Memphis New Metro Conference: 1. Old Dominion 2. Cincy 3. Tulsa 4. UAB 5. ECU 6. Temple 7. Navy 8. Central Florida 9. South Florida The Conference Champs would play each other in the Music City Bowl or Liberty Bowl every year on New Years day. If not, UTEP and Rice could end up in the MWC. Neither option is ideal, but better than status quo RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams - HerdZoned - 01-04-2019 04:03 PM (01-04-2019 02:23 PM)Cyniclone Wrote: UConn basketball still has value, especially if Hurley turns them around, so I could see them finding a landing spot in another G5 conference in exchange for guaranteed men's and women's hoops games. I understand that but even as the AAC is set up the admin and fan base are struggling to accept playing at ECU, Tulane and even SMU because they see those schools and facilities at their schools someone they would never give a game to especially on the road. UConn has really never cared about football. Their biggest investment was in 2000 on their new stadium and then only because they knew they were getting in the BE. Their stadium holds 42K but has only topped 21K twice since the formation of the AAC. UConn could probably drop football and not lose a single booster that matters to their program. RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams - Magic95Fan - 01-04-2019 04:38 PM 10 teams. No divisions. RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams - Side Show Joe - 01-04-2019 05:41 PM Not to say I'm not happy conferencing in C-USA, but if I could build a new G5 league for North Texas, I'd have to assemble a combination of the best sizable universities, with the most resources, in decent sized media markets, that are winning, and seem committed to continue winning. This is what I came up with. (2018 records) Power 12 Conference East Buffalo (10-4) Cincinnati (11-2) FIU (9-4) Memphis (9-5) South Florida (7-6) UCF (12-1) West Boise State (10-3) BYU (7-6) Fresno State (12-2) Houston (8-5) North Texas (9-4) San Diego State (7-6) Not a travel friendly conference, or a regional friendly conference, but the better G5 programs are not all in one region of the country. I basically hitched North Texas to the 13 winning teams that met my criteria and I believe will be among the best G5 programs 5 years from now.
