OT - New business model for Notre Dame Stadium? - Tomball Owl - 01-01-2019 01:08 PM

First a sold out Garth Brooks concert. Now sold out NHL hockey.

I like the model.

RE: OT - New business model for Notre Dame Stadium? - Fort Bend Owl - 01-01-2019 01:33 PM

I think Rice Stadium would sell out for an NHL game (or a Garth Brooks concert). Of course the hockey might be tricky in water. And Garth already played the rodeo a few times last year (and is he set to do it again in 2019?).

Seeing the players walking down the ramp from Patterson in skates could be interesting.

A compelling image to be sure, but an unlikely one. The NHL had an outdoor exhibition in Las Vegas on a 95 degree in September of 1991 on reportedly good ice. Not without a few problems, but ones likely solved by 27 years newer tech.

I have to say, I have never been a ND fan. But after making the alumni trip in 2014, the way we were treated has caused me to become something of a fan. Really an outstanding experience.

RE: OT - New business model for Notre Dame Stadium? - Tiki Owl - 01-01-2019 02:35 PM

The Classic in 2014 was in Dodger Stadium with a temp of 55 degrees. The trick is to keep the ice temp around 11-15 degrees.

Interesting innovation by PPG.

Next year’s game will be at the Cotton Bowl (the Stadium not Jerry’s World).

It's great unless you're a freshman with epilepsy. Then, you're nobody.

Well, I wasn't a freshman with epilepsy, so I wouldn't know.

As for the situation that you appear to be referencing, the question is what constitutes "reasonable accommodation" versus unreasonable. ND determined that the accommodation requested was unreasonable. There are two sides to that argument.

I guess even the big name programs can have stadium problems.

Simply stating that there are two sides to an argument does not mean that there are two reasonable sides to an argument. "The Earth is round" and "The Earth is flat" are not two reasonable sides. Notre Dame's unilateral decision that it was reasonable is like a certain temporary AD deciding on his own that he had no conflicts of interest.

"Reasonable accommodation" can be a very nebulous term. I'd say there is way more room for disagreement here than for your "round/flat" proposition, which is therefore not a reasonably applicable hypothetical. Notre Dame's "unilateral" decision could have been challenged by the student, who apparently chose not to do so.

To what situation is WRC referencing?

There was apparently a HS senior who wanted to attend ND who was epileptic. He was accepted, and then on his doctor's advice requested a solo room as an accommodation for his epilepsy. ND refused. The student subsequently went elsewhere.

I'm surprised you didn't find this, with your legendary browsing expertise.

I'm sure I could have, but at that time I didn't want to look around and post an article/link asking WRC "is this what you were referring to"?

It's much more helpful when folks post complete info themselves -- rather than just inference -- when they introduce a new aspect to a thread/conversation. :-)

There will be no 50,000 + attendance events held at Rice. Parking and facilities can not support these activities.

Well, keep in mind, at the time I posted I was only guessing as to what WRC had in mind. I just googled Notre Dame, epilepsy, and freshman. And obviously, that had nothing to do with the football experience.

Not sure there is much more parking at Notre Dame (or most other campus) Stadium than at HRS. Buses/Metro Rail can be used to move spectators from remote parking.

Invest in the facilities already. Spend money to make money.

I agree. I don't think the parking at ND stadium is that great at all. At least not from what I remember.
