UConn to BigEast dropping football? - qwerty1 - 11-18-2018 11:30 AM

No rumor here, just wondering. I mean UConn gets rid of one poor head football coach and hires another poor football coach who, IMO, is bottom of the barrel.

Is it not time to think seriously about petitioning the BigEast for membership and subsequently dropping the football program or downgrading to 1AA (FCS)?

UConn won a national championship in men's basketball in the recent past, not even mentioning the women's side which is on a completely different level. UConn knows how to put very top-tier basketball programs together.

Has there been any serious banter about taking this path? Just curious.

We all voted for UConn to do that, but they refused to leave.

Absolutely not. UConn will be back in basketball and quite frankly, who would you replace them with? UMass? UAB? Southern Miss?

UConn is about to be a basketball power again. Even if they continue to suck at football, there's no way I would want them to leave the conference. UConn basketball is arguably the biggest brand in this league when they are firing on all cylinders.

Interesting dilemma for the rest of the conference...

1) Keep Uconn football and have a perrenial SOS torpedo on everyone schedule that plays them?

2) Drop Uconn football and let the teams that need a game fill in with a decent OOC opponent, hoping that team doesn't become a SOS land mine by the time the game is played?

3) Nab a willing team that has a pulse from the MWC to fill Uconn's spot?

4) Pull up another bottom feeder and hope that playing in the AAC grows them into a not-Uconn?

I agree, easily the biggest brand.

I think the only 2 maybe three programs that can compete with them when good is Cincy basketball, Houston football and recently UCF football. UConn basketball still easily gets the nod when they are good.

This 100%. They are about to get some five and four star players in 2019. They're getting ready to be damn good again. Plus they are UConn a national brand. You want that in the conference.

As long as UConn plays well in basketball anything else is a plus.

RE: UConn to BigEast dropping football? - Tiger1983 - 11-18-2018 12:43 PM

No.

UConn will stay. Football will improve.... Rome wasn't built in a day.

Same was said about Memphis football not too long ago, now look.

Same was actually done to Temple think we’ve proven we belong here.

are you a troll

1) you are insinuating the aac forum, that aac basketball is bad and UConn should move the big east....

1b) you think uconns football is so bad you want them out of our league ...every league has bottom feeder..but they are a power in basketball and dumb to get rid of them

this dumb conversation again..

2) if you are arent a troll and just naive, no its a stupid argument...no one is having any legitimate conversations about this and logistically it would be suicide

- tv money isnt the only money you get..uconns revenue is double what any basketball-only school makes..uconn has used its basketball leverage to gain a lot in football..like the home football game vs Michigan ... michigan isnt going to fcs home stadium (or 99% of any g5 stadium)..you dont need to win to make money in football

- brett McMurphy already reported that uconn is next inline if allignment madness happens in the acc, why would they forfeit their spot in line

RE: UConn to BigEast dropping football? - The Grape King - 11-18-2018 01:47 PM

This is a joke of a conversation. Literally nobody wants that except a few casual fans, mostly that don't follow UConn. The Big East wouldn't take them, UConn would never want to do that, the American doesn't want that, no informed fans want that.

Giving up FBS footbal gives up massive amounts of exposure that makes football so valuable for these schools. The Big East is a conference for small private, mostly Catholic institutions. They wouldn't want a public and why would UConn want to associate themselves with crappy Catholic schools. UConn is a respected flagship institution. None of this makes any sense for anyone.

RE: UConn to BigEast dropping football? - The Knight Time - 11-18-2018 02:08 PM

UConn has a very serviceable Senior QB this year and is still absolutely, totally awful.

How bad will it be next year when they have no defense to speak of and also can't score?

RE: UConn to BigEast dropping football? - HoustonCougarNation - 11-18-2018 02:43 PM

Give it one more year and let's see what happens?

RE: UConn to BigEast dropping football? - Coach Bonez89 - 11-18-2018 02:53 PM

As long as UCONN basketball gets back to where it was (I think Hurley will do a damn good job), then it makes up for their football squad getting swept by the famous "Montgomery Boys" in football.

Just curious: Do y'all negotiate your own tv contract with SNY? Or do we all get a piece of that pie?
