UNCG - 11/13 - CAA.TV - solohawks - 11-09-2018 10:06 PM

UNCG put up a fight against #23 LSU. Lost by 3 in Baton Rouge. Hopefully our 3s start falling again and our turnovers start going down

Despite how tough Campbell and Stanford were in games 1 and 2, things don't get any easier, as UNCG is our toughest opponent so far.

UNCG defeated NC A&T on the road, 74-66, then fell @ LSU 97-91. They've displayed an explosive offense and an impressive interior defense so far this season, blocking 14 shots in 2 games as a team.

The Spartans' lineup is veteran-laden, featuring 3 returning starters and 2 veteran replacements. Thus, its no wonder UNCG are favored to repeat as SoCon champions, coming off a 27-8 season (15-3 SoCon) last year. It's scary to think they may be even better this season, and one that could perhaps make it beyond the 1st round of the tournament last year, where they lost to Gonzaga.

And while the Spartans have allowed some points thus far this season, don't let that fool you. Last year, UNCG was 5th in the nation in scoring defense (62.5 ppg), so expect some regression back to the mean coming soon.

Not only does UNCG feature an impressive lineup, it could get even better. Wichita State transfer Eric Hamilton has averaged just 17.0 minutes off the bench his first 2 games as he gets acclimated to his new team and system. The 6-9, 250 lbs redshirt junior will only expand his role as the season progresses.

In short, a victory over the Spartans would be a major upset.

I know that Stanford was not picked to finish very high in the Pac-12, but I would say they are a tougher opponent for us than UNCG. Their size and length really bothered us. Other than UNC we won't face a team like that again. Mid Majors just don't have that size and length down their whole roster.

I'm calling a Seahawk victory on Tuesday!

Stanford had length but they're also young and pretty raw. UNCG is a veteran squad that has the capability of dominating a game on both ends of the court.

Just because they're not a P5 doesn't mean they aren't extremely dangerous. They only lost to Gonzaga by 4 in the NCAA Tournament last season, and they also beat Keatts' NC State squad in the regular season. They lost a couple pieces to graduation but don't seem to have missed much of a beat heading into 2018-19.

UNCG actually presses more than Keatss did at UNCW. They are going to turn us over more than Campbell or Stanford did, and they can score as well. If we lose by under 10 I'll be surprised.

Don’t have a great feeling about this one. It’s going to be tough if we start out 0-3. We have got to take care of the ball. Shots will eventually fall or Cacock can grab an offensive rebound. Just quit turning the ball over.

UNCG is a 6 point favorite as of this morning

I think this one is pretty simple... We're going to have to bring our A game tonight if we want a shot at this one. We can't have any of the lulls that we've had in the first two games. 40 minutes of quality basketball, if not we'll be 0-3.

I will be shocked if we win this one.

The odds are against us for sure. I think we've showed in spurts how good we can be, it's all about putting it together for a 40 minute game. We could do that tonight and still not win. UNCG is a very good team, but I think it's possible.

RE: UNCG - 11/13 - CAA.TV - SEA33HAWK - 11-13-2018 12:19 PM

UNCG is now favored by 7.5.
Over/under 149.5

Man, this 0-2 start has really sapped the energy here.

I'm still excited for this game, even if we don't have a good chance of pulling the upset.

RE: UNCG - 11/13 - CAA.TV - 82hawk - 11-13-2018 04:21 PM

I had high hopes for the year but was waiting to see if we were as good on the court as on paper. So far we aren't. It can still change, but the idea that we could somehow get back to the NCAA tournament seems far fetched.

Who was EXPECTING a return to the tournament this year?

I mean. It would be awesome if it happens, but that’s a massive leap I don’t think anyone here was making.

We broke the press with the same cross court pass plays 2-3 times, UNCG mad a slight adjustment and turned us over at mid court that leads to a break away and bad foul by Toews trying to save an easy UNCG basket.

Only bad thing to our game so far tonight is lazy passes. Pass it like you lift weights every now and then!
