New Fifth Third: best sports venue in Cincy? - OKIcat - 10-23-2018 02:48 PM

I have not had the opportunity to participate in a construction tour so I'm basing this solely on the video updates, photos and other published reports about seating comfort, improved sight lines and enhanced amenities: scoreboards, memorabilia, new (local) food and beverage options.

There's a growing lethargy with the Reds' hopelessness and the Bengals' haplessness in this town. So I pose the following questions for conversation:

- Is UC ready to do some chest pounding and promote it as "the best sports venue in Cincinnati and the best on-campus arena in our region"? Claiming it is half the battle; let the challengers offer some rebuttal. Some aggressive marketing plan is needed to leverage this $85 million investment for greater visibility in the world of college basketball.
- Is our local media; Cincinnati.com, our flagship radio partner and local TV ready to roll out feature stories on the venue tied to UC's rich history and current winning ways? Will they proclaim a sold-out season as the toughest ticket in Cincinnati? (Or are they afraid to give UC a "one up" for fear of offending fans of other area programs?)
- Does the Athletic Department have video/copy prepared to provide to all networks for national telecasts this season? ESPN's old bumper footage of Skyline coneys or Fountain Square is both generic and tired. There will be abundant new images, inside and outside on campus, that the nation should see during timeouts.
-Is Fifth/Third Bank fully on board to promote its new namesake, the home of the Bearcats?

Bottom line: these opportunities only come along so often. UC needs to do this with class, fanfare and a real sense of celebrating our rich history and bright future. Will the University and Athletics seize this opportunity? Thoughts?

Why is this needed? UC has sold out 97% of it's season ticket allotment.

Fair question. Isn't that fact alone though worth promoting? It hasn't occurred, preseason, in a quarter century as I recall. A season sellout creates the kind of sizzle UC needs to continue strengthening its brand. That could translate to more media coverage, increased demand for tickets in the secondary market, more revenue through sales of licensed merchandise and a closer look from higher profile recruits...maybe even the interest of a higher profile conference someday.

Hard to argue with that. So we now have the two best venues in town.

Used to be before they destroyed west side of the stadium.

Maybe before they ruined it's aesthetic by cutting out a bunch of seats. Now it looks like sh!t.

And replaced classy brick walls with ugly ass concrete. Plus, nothing says 'top class facility' like porto-lets. 03-lmfao

Yes. Thank you. I am not alone in disliking how they did the renovation.

Nippert despite the notches is the best. No Porto lets in the club.

Did you just stumble upon this forum? This has been complained about since the field was reconfigured by the same usual suspects in here.

This board's version of Godwin's Law at work. As any thread grows longer, the probability of mentioning the notches (or Huggins comparison, or 75-73) approaches 1.

This. My God, people, get over it. Nippert is 100% better since the renovation. If you can’t see that, there is no hope for you.

I like the porto-lets...home boy likes some privacy...unlike the guy who followed me into the 1 person bathroom in the Stadium View Cafe last game...******* animals.

Been to about 35 stadiums. Port o lets are fairly common.

RE: New Fifth Third: best sports venue in Cincy? - CliftonAve - 10-24-2018 07:59 AM

If you don't like the port-o-john's there are plenty of other bathrooms to hit. Hell, I haven't hit a port-o-john in over 2 years at Nippert. If you are on the east side of the stadium there are the ones next to the concessions (the one by the concession at the top is rarely used during the game). On the west side you can go into TUC or go to the one downstairs near Section 110.

It seems no one knows about or thinks to go into TUC. takes 30 secs to get into, go up to the 4th floor, and you have the whole bathroom to yourself to sh!t in peace. Grab a drink from the vending machine for 1/5 the price of concessions on your way out, or stop by Taco Bell or chik fil a.

Both Nippert and 5/3 are head and shoulders well above PBS. That place is a dungeon.

GABP is very nice, but too small in my opinion.

And I use TUC a lot before games.
