Rice Roll Call, Oct 13 - ATTALLABLAZE - 09-06-2018 08:49 AM

My flight is already booked. SW is very reasonable and offers non-stop. With my points I paid $11.00 for a rt ticket. No points its about 113 out there and 125 back on the days I am traveling. I'll be out there for about four days seeing family. Hobby is not far from the stadium and you fly over it on approach depending on which runway.

Anyone else in? If we get a nice crowd, maybe we pick a location to get a pre-game beverage?

I'm debating if I can afford it after spending so much on cat's surgery & normal Aug/Sept bills.

If you're going to Rice, I highly recommend eating at Goode Company... they have three restaurants on Kirby, close to Rice University Village. The main Q place has great BBQ, (get the Texas beef brisket, although I know I don't need to tell you that) and dynamite pecan pie. A couple of blocks down the street is Goode Co. Tacqueria, which has solid Tex-Mex and does amazing breakfasts. They also have a white tablecloth Goode Co. Seafood restaurant a couple of blocks from there.

You could do a damn sight worse. They've been there thirty plus years, they must be doing something right.

You guys want to all meet up at one of these places?

Goode is really good.

I’d rather go to La Tech but that’s just me. I know Houston is much better than Ruston.

I'm staying four days to see the Fam. Old stomping grounds from Houston to Beaumont to Woodville.

Come on over y’all. We promise we’ll give you a better game this year than what we rolled into Birmingham with last year!
Goode Co is awesome and was our go-to way back when I was in school. Great patio at the BBQ location. I’m out of the area now but will probably drive down for this one.

When I visited Houston in 1961, I was used to only having BBQ pork. The places I visited there offered only BBQ brisket, BBQ ham and BBQ goat but no regular BBQ pork as I had in B'ham. A BBQ pork sandwich then cost 60 cents / with greasy fries-75/ at Carlisle's (original family owners) on 6th Ave South. You could have a BBQ sandwich, fries and a Grapico (in a cold beaded bottle) and get change from a $1 bill.

RE: Rice Roll Call, Oct 13 - ATTALLABLAZE - 10-06-2018 10:20 PM

I’m bringing 4 in my group. Look for us behind the bench Everyone try and sit together.

RE: Rice Roll Call, Oct 13 - FNblazer - 10-07-2018 12:00 AM

Last I saw tickets behind our bench could be had on Stubhub for $6!

RE: Rice Roll Call, Oct 13 - blazerball25 - 10-07-2018 08:22 AM

Just bought my 3 tickets for $1.98 a piece on SeatGeek. $8.93 total. Basically stealing.

Sec 112 row 3 behind the UAB bench. I'm sure we will absolutely roast in the sun.

Prices have gone up. Now around $700 for a round trip flight. I should have jumped on it when you first posted this!

RE: Rice Roll Call, Oct 13 - ATTALLABLAZE - 10-11-2018 06:13 AM

Spirit had a cheap fare out of ATL

Anyone want to meet for breakfast sat morning near Rice?

Rice
UNT
UTEP
UTSA

All cheap southwest fares if you purchase in advance and easy to fly to. With my points my tickets were 12.00 round trip. ;-)

RE: Rice Roll Call, Oct 13 - GreenGiant67 - 10-11-2018 03:44 PM

This year was getting season tickets and Blazer Club seats. Next year will be the same but I'll add a few away games. Charlotte and LaTech are within my driving distance comfort for a weekend. I will need to plan my away games better next year. I have a ton of points through my credit union that can be used for airfare.

Charlotte rotates off the schedule next year.
