USA Today post-spring - WinstonTheWolf - 05-07-2018 05:24 PM

Always liked Myerberg's rankings/countdown . . .

but I'm not really buying this:

46. Arkansas State
60. Troy
70. Appalachian State

103. Coastal Carolina
105. Georgia State

111. Georgia Southern
113. South Alabama
114. Louisiana-Monroe
116. Louisiana-Lafayette

129. Texas State

I'm confused about Coastal Carolina

RE: USA Today post-spring - AppinVA - 05-07-2018 06:41 PM

Myerberg is SeminoleIndian???

RE: USA Today post-spring - debragga - 05-07-2018 06:52 PM

Flip Coastal and ULM and it’s not a bad list imo. Oh and move every SBC team up several slots

Every time I click these usatoday articles, I'm redirected to some fecal matter..... I guess I should say further fecal matter based on the rankings. Specifically, I reach this site https://www.viglink.com/shop/merchants.

Getting Moglia back, and their level of experience vs last year will pay off in a huge way. They're still listed in the 100's so it's not like they have them shocking the world.

Plus last year, we were a very young team that couldn’t stay healthy and didn’t have a QB who could run our system. Not saying we will be world beaters this year, but we will defiantly be a step up.

But your schedule is a bit uneven for a team in the 100's. Lets assume that USA's rankings are reasonable.

@ South Carolina - probable loss
UAB at home - playing a team at home ranked 10 spots higher than them.
Campbell - win
@ULL - playing at a team ranked 15 spots lower than you guys.
@ Troy - probable loss
ULM - Per USA today, probable win
@UMass - Per USA today, probable loss (UMass is ranked 75th)
@ Ga State - at school ranked virtually the same. Jump ball goes to the road team.
App State - probable loss at home
Ark State - probable loss at home
Georgia Southern - probable win at home
@ USA - On the road at a team that is within 10 spots on their Senior day.

So, we've got 6 probable losses using USA today's metrics, 3 teams that USA seems to think you'll win and 3 toss ups.

UAB at home
@ULL
@USA

So if USA Today is correct, and road teams lose at teams within 15 spots or so, call CCUs record 2-6 in conference and 4-8 overall.

If he put a caveat in his ranking of Arkansas State, suggesting their talent level is Top 25 but their coaching is bottom 100, then yes.

As with any transition programs, success depends more on line play. Trench play and decent QB play can get you to 6 wins. Coastal's offense was what most thought it would be; the defense, as many suspected, wasn't ready to compete in the trenches and it showed.

Myerburg's response to Georgia Southern's ranking

RE: USA Today post-spring - kevinwmsn - 05-08-2018 04:33 PM

I don't get the rankings. Arkansas State won't get that high unless they start winning out of conference games. I like what Neal Brown is doing at Troy, but they are losing Silvers and Chunn. I have no idea about the guys replacing them. I feel that Georgia Southern is underrated. They ended the season on a good note after coaching change. I don't know how South will do, I'm hoping it won't take too long to get used to coach Campbell.

Other than Alabama, they play UNLV at home, a FCS at home and at Tulsa. Those three teams aren't going to do much for their rating. They beat Alabama in T-town, and they'll quickly pass 46th.

I'm pretty sure we won't come out of Tuscaloossa with a W.

My attitude is that I support my team regardless of the adversary. But I'm enough of a realist to see that the system is heavily weighted towards certain competitors in this lovely competition we call college football. So I stated the obvious.

For some reason I think current Bama is a tougher out than they were in Saban's first year.
