Does anyone else get tired of hearing power 5 in basketball? - Shooters - 04-14-2018 10:57 PM

Has not bearing whatsoever. Pac12 last won it all in 1997. Big10 in 2000. The term itself is deameaning to those not in it. Opposite of power is weak. I’m going to make a motion we call them the Group of Five. All the time. Some might want to use it in football where unfortunately it has some meaning.

I’m sick of hearing Power Five in basketball!!

And a few select dumba$$es around here are worried about being considered a "renegade" school.

LOL.

Every chip is stacked against us already and they are worried about name calling.

LOL to the LOL.

Don't hear much about Power 5 in basketball especially with Big East kicking major arse.
Heck even the American is respected; 3 at large bids with good seeds unlike the Pac 12 that had 3 bids but 2 of the teams had to play in the play-in games.

Power 5 really does not intimidate competitive programs like Memphis, Gonzaga, Butler, and Villanova. I remember Memphis destroying schools like Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Florida State back in the Metro Conference days. Your conference will not save you in the NCAA Tournament.

Don't care.

3 of the last 5 National Champions were non P5 teams

Using the term P5 in college basketball is asinine

For the networks that have invested billions into the power 5 conferences there is plenty of incentive to embrace the term.

Exactly; besides the huge investment in the group of 5, it affects schools like Memphis every time it’s used. Kids were 8-9 years old when Cal left and we were a brand school. Try using group of Five to any national writer in basketball context and explain why. They think you are crazy not to include all five and power together.

4 of last 6 if you include Louisville as they were only one year out of CUSA and that team was built in CUSA.

I remember destroying teams like Michigan State, Texas and UCLA back in the 2008 NCAAT.

F the Big Ten and F the SEC and F ESPN's interest in these two leagues being critical to their bottom line.

Louisville, Uconn and Villanova are hardly mid-majors though. Its a little more layered now than just option A or B.
