UNT Athletics Golden Age? - AustinFromUNT - 03-31-2018 12:59 PM

I saw a post over on gomeangreen.com that I thought should be shared here.

Football -- Won nine games and the division, played in the conference championship and a bowl game. Perfect 6-0 at home.

Men's Basketball -- 20 wins and the CBI championship

Women's Soccer -- Won the conference tournament and went to the NCAAs

Women's Volleyball -- Won the conference championship and went to the NIT

Women's basketball -- Improved to 17 wins and finished over .500 for the first time I can remember

Softball -- Holding steady at 7-4 in conference, one game out of first place

It's much easier being green these days. ” - OldGuyStudent.

It got me thinking, and this truly may be the beginning of a golden age for UNT Athletics. We’re no longer the conference joke/floormat.

Same. Hard to believe there is an nit for volleyball, but not for baseball.

Congrats. That’s very impressive.

maybe silver age, have to win the league in the majors and your bowl game to be considered gold imo. But very happy the direction that UNT is headed. Shows what an AD, coaches and administration that supports athletics can mean to a program.

I dont know if it's a "Golden Age" but it's possible we are starting to trend up to our potential. UNT has always kind of been the sleeping giant that just wont wake up.

Congratulations UNT! Could get you a running start for next season.

Trending ^ --- now go win a lot of OOC games!!

I see only good future for UNT from here (except for few bad seasons). Confidence is what builds a program, and you have that !!

I wouldn't call it a golden age. Yes we won a lot of games in a lot of different sports. But, that is what real college fans expect from their programs. What we are seeing is what we should have expected from RV under his 15 year reign in the athletic department. And to be fair, not all 15 years, but certainly the last 5 years of his tenure.

Baseball would never work because unlike other sports they draft in season. Season ends for most teams Memorial Day weekend. Draft is roughly 7-10 days later in the middle of the NCAA tournament. Drafted Seniors who are done with their collegiate season literally sign and report to Extended Spring training within 3-4 days of signing a contract.

Start promoting Fine/Guyton soon.

Having that chemistry back means you have a shot in any close game. You better smoke SMU. No excuses there. I want to see how you fare versus Arkansas. That schedule really works in your favor. Just need some luck and a full head of steam. lol.

All good points. It will take a near perfect game to upset Arkansas on the road. They have SEC talent across the board and Morris knows our team well. I personally will be very angry if we don't beat SMU.

I do agree, if we can get rolling early, it could be hard to slow us down. I doubt offense will be an issue in most games. The overall success of next season should rest squarely on the shoulders of our defense and special teams. And right now I still have reservations about both units.

If we dont beat SMU, im gonna spiral into a funk of no return. The expectation is to beat them. They are losing both of their Mean Green killers and they have a whole new coaching staff. There is no reason to lose to them.

RE: UNT Athletics Golden Age? - Green Menace - 04-01-2018 06:37 PM

We have to replace Jeffery Wilson with another running back of equal quality.

I don't see how SMU blew UNT out, very slow line and mediocre QB.

A 64 team NIVC was started last year for volleyball. Don’t know if it will continue this year.
