UMKC has led in nation in tournament play in opponent free throw attempts the last two games. (2017 + 2018)They happen to be against NMSU and GCU which leads WAC in attendance, but I think this one was more the WAC knows umkc is leaving.

There was too many phantom calls in this one. They were all big in 3 point game, but none probably bigger than Giles charge call and then phantom call where benson shoots two free throws.
While your conspiracy theory makes for great discussion, I am still more inclined to believe Coach Richardson adjusted his game plan to play tougher defense. Combine this with the refs calling a very tight game and you have a recipe for a lot of fouls. Personally, I would rather see the refs let the teams just play. If they had, GCU probably would have won by double digits since they play much better when the game is loosely called.

RE: The WAC Tournament - RoosHouse - 03-08-2018 06:17 PM

Its not a conspiracy. The statistical odds for UMKC to give up that many fee throws in back to back tournament games to NMSU (33fts) and GCU (35fts) is 0.008% chance.

Okay, you win. 04-bow Plus you're guaranteed 2nd or 3rd place next year so you have something to look forward to.

UVU vs CSUB is also turning into a good game. Runners are making a run! Two point game with less than 13 minutes to play.

Giles charge call was difference.

Ok sure. Everyone is wanting that 1500 per game attendance and no success UMKC bball program.

Can't win in the Summit, can't win in the WAC. Maybe UMKC should try the Southland or SWAC. Cheers

Letting a little home team bias seep in here? Roos played an outstanding game and GCU stunk up the place. We are very, very fortunate to pull out the win.

2nd year in a row the team we lose to will shoot the most fee throws in the country in tournament play. That has a 0.00811681 % chance of happening.

Don't have UMKC waste its athletic budget to fly out there.
I think your statistical odds are a bit off. Richardson had the Roos playing in your face defense the whole time (great strategy by the way) which tends to lead to more fouls being called.
Yup, true! CSUB was able to make it work last year.

Sitting on a toilet somewhere and interacting with you.

RE: The WAC Tournament - NeptunianEmp - 03-08-2018 07:45 PM

CSUB got within 4 but that was it.

RE: The WAC Tournament - Lopes87 - 03-08-2018 08:51 PM

The Roos led 72-69 until they missed 3/4 shots and committed consecutive turnovers at the end of the game but we can focus on the FT's.

RE: The WAC Tournament - Raider_Lope - 03-08-2018 10:05 PM

So, I got to listen to the last four minutes of the game. I was freaking out at work during a string of meetings when I saw we were down 20-4. This was the team that beat UVU, not the one who lost to CSU. Then I listened to GCU squeeze out the win. So, I didn’t get to see any of the game.

I say this because I want to know honestly if the game was really called that poorly? I can’t weigh in on the discussion due to not having been able to see it.

I think you mean 3 of 5 which is 40%. Giles made that shot. Should have been 74-71. Giles should have still been on court no one would have stopped him. Lever too slow all game.

The biggest sequence was with 2:20 left roos up 72-71. Giles who scored 13 points in 15 minutes because that is all the refs let him play got called for charge on a made basket which no ref would ever say is a charge so he fouls out instead of up 74-71. Then Benson I've looked a replay nobody touches him flops to get free throws. That is how Grand Canyon got the lead free throws.

The two lever fouls when he missed his 3's are also complete and utter biased calls/bs whatever and that's 5 points there.

RE: The WAC Tournament - RoosHouse - 03-08-2018 10:43 PM

In Summary, it doesn't matter because UMKC wasn't beating NMSU and Lever might be the most overrated player since Braun (joke)

And WAC doesn't like umkc in tournament games for some reason.

I would have to agree with you there on the Giles charge. That was a MAJOR flop.
On the Benson foul I couldn't really tell with the angle they were showing.

RE: The WAC Tournament - NeptunianEmp - 03-08-2018 11:03 PM

NMSU wins 97-70. CSU played well and there were fancy plays all around. For the next game I am normally an SU fan, but I want UTRGV to get their first conference win.

You might want to put the keyboard away for the night, friend. You're sounding a little unhinged.

Why did they replace the girl with that dude?

Is RoosHouse going the way of Clarity?

Raider, the refs called a very tight game (which always hurts GCU) which, of course, resulted in a lot of fouls called. They were especially calling it tight in the middle which hurt the more athletic inside players (Giles for the Roos and Vernon for GCU). Giles only played 15 minutes and Vernon only played 14. I noticed the refs were also calling body fouls quite a bit. Giles, Leek and Vernon all tended to have their hands straight up while slyly leaning in with their body to cause the shooter to be off-balanced. These fouls aren't always called but they were called in this game. It is up to the players to adjust.

Congrats to the Redhawks for their 20th win of the season. First 20 win season in D1 since 1964!

RE: The WAC Tournament - ProfScott - 03-09-2018 10:13 AM

Below are the KenPom odds for tonight's semi-final games. At this point, I'll take a 41% chance of beating Utah Valley.

56 New Mexico St. vs 192 Seattle (W, 73-63, 84%)
85 Utah Valley vs 115 Grand Canyon (W, 71-69, 59%)
115 Grand Canyon vs 85 Utah Valley (L, 71-69, 41%)
192 Seattle vs 56 New Mexico St. (L, 73-63, 16%)
