It would take you a good while to find the last time App entered a conference tournament as a 5 seed or better. Not a knock on them. It’s just never been their thing. Plus, Shabazz is really good and I don’t think any fan here could say that there is any team that they would feel 100% confident going up against in a do or die game.

We have won five of our last 7. That said we're such a rollercoaster, who knows what we'll do. But, I guess that speaks for most of the rest of the league.

The league should consider flipping the start times for the brackets from round 1 to round 2. If a team playing in the morning session Wednesday wins theyll be back there again for round 2 which makes it very difficult for fans to follow along. I realize this is common, but most tournaments don't have a day off.

When playing back to back days it makes since to keep that start times the same, but in our situation with the day off and most fans watching from home it would be nice. Making it easier for fans to watch might actually generate some fan interest which is lacking for most of our schools.

RE: Opening round basketball tourney discussion - TrueBlueDrew - 03-04-2018 09:12 AM

I’m nervous about playing ULM in the next round. (No offense to Arkansas State)

RE: Opening round basketball tourney discussion - EigenEagle - 03-04-2018 09:22 AM

This tournament has jumped the shark. We've got 7 teams with losing record playing. Ridiculous.

It's become like the tragedy of the commons:

Fan bases of teams with 9-9 conference records love a chance to win the tournament slot machine and steal a bid and coaches love the chance to maybe get an NCAA tournament bonus and job security. Meanwhile, instead of UTA facing a #6 or #7 seed to maybe get an NCAA tournament win for the league 3 years in a row, we send Troy to get chewed up by #2 Duke.

When our teams have RPIs in the 30s and 40s and aren't even considered bubble teams, what is the point of playing roulette to see who gets the bid?

RE: Opening round basketball tourney discussion - Arrowhead - 03-04-2018 11:07 AM

Heck Arkansas St. has swept us this year and we have gone into a slump. Don’t be too nervous.

The thing to keep in mind is that even if we were a strong basketball league, I doubt we'd ever be considered for an at large. The Selection Committee has made it very clear the last few years that a team that goes 7-11 in the SEC is better than someone who goes 17-1 in the Sun Belt.

Hate to agree with them, but this year's Ole Miss team that finished 5-13, beat ULL by 18 points.

I don't think we rate an at large bid but Ole Miss beat us in the first game of the season with us having three new starters in their first game as Cajuns.

What was amazing was how the bracket would have totally flipped had Troy won over Georgia Southern. Seeds 3-7 were THAT close.

I would probably agree with that being a valid excuse. Still, I would but the committee would use that as "evidence" if they were criticized for leaving you out.

Yeah. Troy/Georgia Southern would have swapped to the Cajuns half of the draw. App/UTA would have swapped to the other side, and ULM would have dropped from the 6 seed to the 7 seed.

well it was their second game but the reality is they consider these games gimmies or at best a tough scrimmage. when games between sbc teams and the bottom half of the sec or b12 become a toss up we would be stating our case for a second bid..nobody's fault but ours..we need to win those games if we want to edge out any of them for a bid.

A Georgia Southern fan picking App as his only first round team to get upset...imagine that.
