https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/san-diego-coach-lamont-smith-arrested-on-domestic-violence-charges/ is titled "San Diego coach Lamont Smith arrested on domestic violence charges." It says Smith is in his third season there, so in his first season there he coached Pusica as a sophomore.

Vasa transferred after playing one year for Smith.
Bill Grier was the USD ahead coach that recruited him and was fired after Vasa’s freshman season.
So maybe he knew he wasn’t a good guy. Otherwise I too don’t get the post.
