Sun Belt signs 8-year deal with ESPN - UABslant - 03-01-2018 12:25 PM

More news coming and who knows what the contract is worth, but man what is wrong with the C-USA conference office?

RE: Sun Belt signs 8-year deal with ESPN - BandGrad - 03-01-2018 12:33 PM

We don't have any leadership in the conference offices. CUSA football is good enough to get a contract with ESPN. Basketball is not nearly as bad as some folks think it is. And I certainly feel that CUSA basketball is a better brand than the Sun Belt.

Why would we want to be on ESPN? We're on a facebook page sometimes!

And Al-Jazeera!

So how much does the Sun Belt have to pay them ?

I'll be interested to see the contract value and what day of the week the football games are on.

But no doubt this provides excellent visibility and branding power.

Streaming off someone's laptop to Twitter, ESPN, same difference

Word is the games will be behind an ESPN pay wall. Don't know if its true or not

RE: Sun Belt signs 8-year deal with ESPN - BlazerMatt - 03-01-2018 03:36 PM

Yeah, ESPN is coming out with their own "netflix for sports" and most of what is now on Watch ESPN aka ESPN3 will soon be behind a paywall.

Find out how many Saturday games are going to be on ESPN or ESPN2 and how much the sunbelt is getting paid for those games before lighting your torches and grabbing your pitchforks.

I still think that is better than watching on f'n Twitter or Facebook. ESPN's apps are on every device and are pretty good

I'll say the facebook stuff has been pretty good. I like the broadcasts better. I open it up on my big screen.

Bottom line is our TV deal does suck and it isn't getting any better.

RE: Sun Belt signs 8-year deal with ESPN - UABslant - 03-01-2018 04:53 PM

Current deal with ESPN pays each Sun Belt team $100k per year... that deal has been extended ten years.
The catch for Sun Belt fans is that they will have to pay $4.99 per month to watch any game that is streamed online by ESPN... so not that great of a deal for fans.

Stadium broadcasts have been pretty good.

Nah, being on an ESPN app is far better. I can pull that onto my TV with no effort. Using Facebook/Twitter/etc on the TV is painful.

Best part of the Sun Belt's deal is all schools are required to produce broadcasts of a certain quality.

Takes me ten seconds if I waste time.

Affirmative. The process is the same for stadium as it is ESPN3 from a laptop. 10-15 seconds tops.

I know, that was my point. Guess I should have used the blue font.

I get that there is a certain contingent here that wants to not be negative, but to say the Stadium crap on Facebook is just as good as ESPN3 is laughable. I've got 3 different things connected to my TV that will do WatchESPN and zero that will do Facebook. To expect casual people to dig up an HDMI cable and connect their laptop to their TV is crazy.

RE: Sun Belt signs 8-year deal with ESPN - the_blazerman - 03-02-2018 07:54 AM

bandwidth in our area may be a factor here.

ESPN tends to buffer a lot of the times. I know it probably isn't their fault.

Stadium doesn't buffer as much.

I can access stadium via pluto on my phone or laptop, same as ESPN.

Stadium is free, ESPN sometimes isn't.

With that said, yes it is a good deal for the Sun Belt. Wish we had some commissioners who did something.
