Glad to hear that Giles appears back with speed.

I have mixed feelings about Anderson. Article states he completed his MBA at Coastal. Not sure what graduate program he is enrolling in. Even if there is one more year of eligibility, with a graduate degree already in hand, I believe it's time to move on in life. Little curious if he is the oldest player in Tribe history to suit up?

I'd guess there is the possibility that some who may have returned after serving in WW2 but that is just a hunch and not sure if anyone knows that answer.

Mathis is a true freshman I thought. Was that an error or am I off base?

"There's no way W&M can be as bad offensively in 2018 as they were in 2017."- Me

"Hold my beer, and hold my puppet's beer too.'- JL

By Pythagorean Expected Winning Percentage W&M was a 1.8 win team last year that overachieved to win 4 games. Their best receiver graduated. I'm incredibly skeptical of the new head coach. I want to believe there's enough there to grind out 7 wins against the softer teams while they get drilled again by JMU, and that those 7 wins will be enough to convince a 1-A team to give London another chance. My head says 4 wins, bad clock management and musical quarterbacks.

If the offense is bad, the D is on the field a lot. If this offense is good, the D will be on the field a lot. The London/Marion offense put up a ton of points/yards at Howard. The defense almost matched that output. Were they a bad unit? Were they gassed? A little of both? I expect the offense to move the ball and put up points. How this D holds will determine what kind of season we have.

In an interview somewhere (I think at CAA media day?) there was mention of the conditioning that has increased for players on both sides of the ball. Defense certainly shoulders a lot of pressure in these types of offense, but hopefully we're scoring points so the opponent has to take a few risks. I was in grad school at A&M for Johnny Manziel's two years, and all of the talk after the first couple of games is how can the defense hold up with the uptempo play of the offense in the SEC. The defense stepped up and said it's a lot easier to push it when the offense is scoring. Hopefully that can be the case for us. I'm sure the training staff are coming up with/have come up with a great plan to keep everyone loose and in shape through a 12+ game season. Yep, I'm thinking playoffs.

There were many players after WWII, Korea, and Vietnam who were older than the Coastal QB transfer. During WWII there were a number of players who left in 1943 or 43 and were gone for three years.

This spring Jack accepted a WR coaching position at D3 Waynesburg University in PA. Got a call from WM in June, he asked WU for permission to interview with WM. Hired at WM as an unpaid offensive assistant. Many got their start here.

Unpaid? They need to get rid of unpaid coaching positions. They should at least pay him to cover minimal living expenses.

It’s a common entry level. It’s part of the process.

Yes it is - Jack worked his butt off to earn this opportunity and W&M is lucky to have him.

If I read it once, I've read it a thousand times, our assistants started as position coaches with no pay. They've all said, "If a guy will work hard for zero money, then he belongs."

Jack walked on and ended up captain. No doubt he will take full advantage of this and this staff will reward him when they leave for some other school. He, I'm sure, is willing to do what it takes to advance to a paid position down the road.

Not everyone gets a D1 coaching job in their first year out of school (whether paid or unpaid). No doubt Jack will make our receivers better.
