The Fullwood and Babcock additions were a nice surprise (and both out of Blacksburg in one way or another). Any idea why we are listing Babcock as an ATH rather than a LB? Possible safety?
Babcock's coach said we recruited him as a LB. We don't need another safety. Probably going to add size and see where he goes from there.

Hudl lists Babcock at 6'1 175lbs. He would need a looooot of weight to be a CAA level linebacker. I think they took him truly as an athlete. TBD how he develops or where he plays.

So I don't know what kind of defense Brown runs but I could see Babcock being used a modern nickle defense "space-backer". Similar to Arman Jones for us last season.

Coe decommitted from Temple and took a full scholarship at Delaware. #1 punter and #2 PK in Pennsylvania.

Coe, was number 1 P/K combined. Eberle still the top rated punter (Coe was #4 punter). Regardless, both are fantastic kickers.

I am really impressed with this year's class. Kudos to ML and his staff.

I think it is a pretty impressive class as well. He may not play immediately, but I'm super intrigued with Donavyn Lester. I can't remember that we have ever had an RB with that kind of speed. Marion's offense will put him in all different spots to make plays. Once he gets through the defense clean, it's curtains. He will not get caught from behind.

Note to the interviewer: If you want to be taken seriously and you have any pride whatsoever in your craft, buy a $20 microphone so a) you don't have to instruct your subjects to speak "like you're in a huddle" and b) so you don't have to stick your camera in their faces so we, your audience, can hardly hear them.

Liked both the kids though!

Looks like JMU lost Rick D'Abreu to Houston/ECU.

Interesting, also, to see Cignetti close the door on their 3* QB verbal commit last week when VA Tech made a late push and he wanted to take an official. He committed to Tech after JMU pulled the offer. No other QB in JMU's class.

Always very subjective, but Haigler was our highest rated recruit by Hero Sports, as of last week, coming in at #27 in the CAA.

Assuming he committed as a PWO.

It's impossible to gauge the quality of the our new staff's recruits right now, but one has to be impressed at the organization and hard work
that went in to signing this group of eighteen.

Reading the writeups and looking at the film of some of the guys on this thread it certainly appears we have gone after size and speed.
Also positive about going after and signing a kicker/punter...it's about time.

So it's sight unseen, but on paper and video I'm optimistic.

Interesting, we are considering Bart Francois at DL.

“Bart won a state championship this year. He’s an impressive, high-effort, coachable player. He’s extremely physical and has a ‘run through the wall’ mentality.”

Morris was also mentioned as a DL possibility as well. If they do intend to run a 3-4, there aren't very many guys in the 260+ range on the roster to handle it. Murray and Campbell are the only prototypical nose types. Kiely, Fowler, Bessant, Omelchenko and Johnson the only other reasonably sized 3-4 linemen. So Fullwood and Lynn add to the mix through the recruiting class but it would be great if they could redshirt Lynn.

Losing most likely 3 after this season in Murray, Johnson and Omelchenko. I can see the desire to convert one of them. Though, I think our ongoing needs at offensive line will be greater.

You left out Marteise Phipps and from the new class Evan DeBuglio.

I did forget about DeBuglio. I like his raw ability too. Phipps most likely will move into an OLB role in a 3-4. Not big enough. Didn’t forget him just considering him in a different position group. But the kid can be a player I think.

RE: 2019 Football - tribeintexas - 02-08-2019 05:43 PM

Do we have players to move to 3-4? Just wondering as the scheme change does not happen overnight.
