Cool. Top-tier G5 program. These are the type of games we should be scheduling.

Awesome!

A good excuse to drive to Cincy and get ribs on the river from the Montgomery Inn Boathouse!

UGH, more OHIO teams to play. Selfishly I was hoping for someone out my way in the southeast.

or Tulane in New Orleans... But i do like this game. if we are in the battle the group of 5 bowl game, this win can put us in. We should play other top G5 teams if we want to call ourselves a top team.

RE: Cincinnati home and home - Wheres_Waldo? - 02-15-2018 08:10 AM

Absolutely love this. I hope it's a sign of a shift in scheduling. I would prefer to see WMU play string G5 schools than the pay to play P5 schools. Yes, I know the finances dictate the direction we have gone to date. Just saying

RE: Cincinnati home and home - MajorHoople - 02-15-2018 08:19 AM

We could play a mid-level Big Ten-P5 team and one top-tier G5 school like Cincy every year.

Makes more sense than two blood money games.

Agreed. 2016 out of conference schedule is a good model for future scheduling.

Wouldn't it be nice to be in the AA conference? Cincy, Navy, Temple at Waldo. Pipe dream but football facilities can match those schools. Its that money thing

RE: Cincinnati home and home - broncofan1 - 02-15-2018 12:00 PM

I would love to play Louisville.

Great excuse to head down the bourbon country, party on 4th street, enjoy Bardstown, and check out a cool campus.

In 2000 they were prepared to spend the money to move to the Big East. I think the money issue can be overcome. We have a billionaire donor who owns the largest hotel in town, and might like to fill it on weekends with AAC visiting fans and teams. This is the 38th largest media market in the country. The MAC has no vision, and will always be a bush league. Soccer and hockey have a national presence and are growing sports. IMO the time is right to make this move. Join the Horizon in hoops.

That hotel hasn't made money in years, nor has his K Wings hockey team. There is no money in College Football to be made below P5 level. G5 teams bleed it by the millions, P5 are propped up by TV/Media deals. LSU for example brings in $85M from football. By the time they fly the WBB, track, soccer etc all around the country, pay the coaches, budget cost to maintain all those programs to D1 standards the pot is pretty empty.

Man that would be awesome. Slim chance it would happen. The MAC is straight garbage tho, Akron, Ball state, EMU, BGSU. Like cmon, I think western is leagues above those schools. I vote WMU and CMU move to the AAC. Kick out east carolina and tulane

RE: Cincinnati home and home - broncofan1 - 02-15-2018 12:40 PM

Our former president never entertained the thought of leaving the MAC - they treated him like a King.

Now that we have Montgomery, it will be interesting to see where he wants us to go. His replacement for KB will be telling. As an economist, I'm sure he can see how bad things are on the college athletics landscape.

By the way, anyone with insider info know anything about KB's plans?

RE: Cincinnati home and home - GRBRONCO - 02-15-2018 12:56 PM

I don't think AAC would even consider WMU (or any other MAC school) if they were looking to expand.

RE: Cincinnati home and home - brovol - 02-15-2018 01:54 PM

Schools need to stay in a conference which shares a similar budgetary commitment amongst schools, and which won't require unreasonable travel barriers. The MAC is, frankly, the only conference in the Midwest consisting of teams which fits the competitive profile. The AAC doesn't at all, and wouldn't take us even if we begged, because they are delusional and believe that they are equal in all respects to the P5 conferences. They aren't, but that is another story.

I don't want to start the same argument that we had in the hockey forum regarding getting in a conference where we won't be among the regular championship contenders, because we cannot commit the same resources, or have the same advantages that the other schools have. Never want to set yourself up in a non-equitable position.

RE: Cincinnati home and home - Ken Barna - 02-15-2018 02:12 PM

Dear Broncos,
Not to deflate the aspirations of some, as to joining the American Athletic Conference, the travel costs alone would eat up your entire budget for athletics. Your teams would have to travel to Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Kansas, and North Carolina, on a fairly regular basis. It is mostly a Southern and Western oriented conference.
If, some of you are that dissatisfied with the MAC, one can always become an independent, and that way, schedule the teams you want.
