He’s been on thin ice for a long time. They refused to give him an extension which made him a lame duck. Everyone knew he had to make it happen this year or he was gone. Instead he’s been lapped by the entire SEC not named Vanderbilt.

What 1 or 2 NCAA appearances in 12 seasons? He made some pretty good coin for those results.

Who is next?

RE: 2018 Crazy Season in CBB Begins - rath v2.0 - 02-12-2018 02:16 PM

Ollie from UCONN won’t be far behind.

Ole Miss has bigger issues than Andy Kennedy but I do understand its time for him to step aside. This is a program that has only made the NCAAT a handful of times in the past five plus decades.

Why, loss of consortium?

I think Tubby Smith will be gone at the end of the year as well. Memphis has lost five out of the last six and former players have gone public in saying it was a bad hire. The attendance is down to 6K (this is a program that just a few years ago averaged over 16K).

With $9.1 million still due and having winning seasons in his two seasons there, I would be surprised.

Memphis has been on a steady decline since before Tubby showed up. This will be 4 years in a row with no postseason I believe.

Agree. Just pay a visit over at the Memphis board and most are resigned to this. It is so eerily similar to our previous Flubby situation. Man, I am so glad that is in the rear view mirror...

I think Ollie has a BIG buyout.

They have what’s referred to as Coach Cal syndrome. Sell your souls for a few years and once he leaves you’re left in perpetual no man’s land. See UMass.

Unless they can get a hometown deal from Penny. He has some studs on his team he could bring with them led by James Wiseman.

They may slip out of that with the scandal stuff coming on

RE: 2018 Crazy Season in CBB Begins - jarr - 02-12-2018 02:47 PM

How about Kevin Stallings at Pitt? That was a just a bad hire.

Kennedy only made the Big Dance 2 out of 12 years! Sheesh. Didn't realize it was so few.

11 straight years of over .500, but i guess it was all fluff.

With programs like Bama, and Auburn stepping up their commitment to hoops i guess the bar has been raised. It's not like Ole Miss has ever really been interesting in basketball, but suddenly they want more. With all that cash, and a football team that's likely going to stink for a few years I guess they want to make something happen.

I just saw on twitter that Mike DeCourcey gave Ole Miss the Richard Skinner line about never getting a better coach that what you just had.

RE: 2018 Crazy Season in CBB Begins - rath v2.0 - 02-12-2018 02:54 PM

Merely over .500 with out making the dance consistently usually gets you fired long before the end of a dozen years. Tubby Smith will be over .500 at Memphis in both of his years but they want his head on a pike.

My wife's family have a bunch of Ole Miss season ticket holders in it....They have been snarkily calling the NIT the Andy Invitational for a decade. They are rejoicing today as they wanted him canned the last couple of years. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Cab drivers and valets everywhere should also rejoice.

RE: 2018 Crazy Season in CBB Begins - CliftonAve - 02-12-2018 02:54 PM

Switching gear what about Kevin Stallings at Pitt? IIRC, the Panthers still haven't won a game in the ACC.

RE: 2018 Crazy Season in CBB Begins - rath v2.0 - 02-12-2018 02:58 PM

The Stallings hire was so bad. You'd have to think he gets canned soon.

I recall his name was actually thrown around for the UC job in 2006 which made me have a heart arythmia. We'd still be in the toilet had they hired him.
