Almost exciting enough to make me want to reclaim center seats?

Is it any coincidence that it will overlook Marge Schott Stadium?

I think her drink of choice was cheap vodka.

FOX19 is going to air a half-hour Bearcat Basketball Special Sunday, 3.4.2018 at 11:00PM. They will be highlighting the season and also cover progress on 5/3rd arena.

Glad to hear 19 is doing this. For the long ago TV home of the Bearcats they show a lot of love for that team across town these days. Of course other local media do too.

highlights from article....

UC is adding 542 club seats, filling the west side of the arena in line with the court. It’ll install three areas for fans with club seats to get concessions, eat, drink and mingle. One, called the Champions Club, honors coaches who have won the national title or taken UC to the Final Four: Ed Jucker, George Smith and Bob Huggins.

UC is adding 14 loge boxes, too, with four seats each. Those are like mini-suites and include TV monitors and a small refrigerator. That adds 56 premium seats. It didn’t have any club seats or loge boxes before the renovation.

Among the biggest changes are a new concourse on the upper level and an expanded lower-level concourse, both of which now circle the entire arena for the first time.
...........

The renovation fills in the corners of the seating area that were empty in the past, and UC is adding a section of seats that cantilevers out over the court on each end. Those 10 rows of seats will offer views close to the action. Student sections will be on both ends as well.

The renovated arena will include new drink stations on each level. Those will feature plenty of local craft beers.

UC is installing a new video board as well as ribbon boards that circle the arena for running ads. It’s buying those from well-known scoreboard maker Daktronics.

Capacity will drop from 13,176 to 12,012 as a result of the renovation. That’s largely because of wider seats, Bohn said.

“It’s all driven by the fan experience,” he said.

The main entrance is being completely revamped with the concourse made much wider. That will combine with the open concourses to create a better game-day atmosphere, he said.

“When you walk in, you’ll feel like you’re in a venue. You’ll feel the energy,” Bohn said.

The exterior of the building will look different, too. Glass windows jut out from the upper-level concourse. And the Oscar Robertson statue will move to just outside the front entrance. It will be surrounded by tiles depicting UC’s All-Americans, Bohn said.

All but one of the 16 luxury suites has already been sold, Bohn said. The club seats are likely to sell out, too.

The changes should help ticket sales in other areas, too. UC’s goal is to sell out the lower bowl. It’s trending toward that, Bohn said. That would mean about 6,000 regular tickets and 1,800 student tickets would be sold for each game.

............

The arena’s renovation is opening up opportunities to book more events. UC now has a deal to host all 13 Cincinnati Public Schools high school graduations beginning in spring 2019, Frigge said. Fifth Third Arena hasn’t hosted a high school graduation since 2004. They’ve been held at various locations since then.

Holding local high school graduation ceremonies in the new 5/3? Brilliant. It will bring in thousands of new people into the arena every year to see what we've built. That may become even more important if we lose the FCC crowd in a couple years.

GOOD! I'm getting tired of hearing about friends and family attending HS graduations at the Cintas Center. FWIW, the general consensus has been that it is usually one big mess with parking and entering/exiting the ceremonies. Hopefully, UC will figure out a way for the experience to be a little better.

Great point.

I think some people overlook the marketing benefits of bringing 20,000 FCC fans to campus 15 times a year. Many of those FCC fans aren't UC fans or alums, and would never visit the campus if FCC wasn't around. It allows our beautiful campus to change more people's Enquirer-fueled negative opinion about UC.

Would love to see 5/3 Arena host concerts as well like BB&T. It can handle the traffic much better than NKU and will likely match or exceed BB&T in amenities.

Fox 19 sports director Joe Dannerman’s family are big Xavier fans. His dad and mom have season tickets for years. His uncle went to X. So don’t look for to much love.

The traffic in and out will certainly be better because there are multiple egresses, but NKU has significantly more parking spots and barely any garages.

I'd say if 5/3's capacity is greater and the flow of traffic is much better on sell outs than NKU, it doesn't matter how many parking spots NKU has.
