Don't tell me Cacock isn't 1st. team All CAA. Took down his last nemisis tonight against Hofstra.

He's not done yet... Gotta finish this game, looking good though.

We can put that "can't play against Gustys" crap to bed. Made Gustys look silly tonight. Gustys got away with a lot, but he still couldn't hang with Cacok.

If only the JMU game hadn’t gotten moved he’d be a virtual lock for POW. Especially considering what he did to JMU in Trask...

I guess the CAA realized they needed to rectify the fact Cacok had not won POW all year, so he gets CoPOW along with Riller of CofC after his performance against Hofstra.

About time they woke up.

I'm not sure if he is trying, but i'd like to see Cacok work on his 3 point shot. In many ways shooting the three is easier than mid range jumpers. after watching Maye kill it in the post and also drain three pointers, it made me wonder if Cacok could develop a similar offensive arsenal?

Analytics would agree with that approach. Nothing worse than a difficult 2-pointer. If you can shoot a deep 2, might as well try a 3 instead.

I've seen Cacok knock some down in pre-game warmups, for what its worth!

The beauty of the 3 pointer is that it's from just about the same distance every time, so no adjusting for shorter or longer shots.

Not sure why people think shooting longer shots are easier than a closer shot-just dumb. I do understand the payoff of a 3 vs a 2 point shot but it makes zero sense to say it can be an easier shot. Cacok would be better served to concentrate on making foul shot s and mid range jumpers before he jumps out and starts banging the 3 ball. I do think he could be a decent shooter pretty quickly if he puts in the work in the summer to make it happen. The guy is a freak.

No one is saying its an easier shot. We're saying if you're going to shoot a difficult shot, might as well make it a 3-point attempt rather than a 2-pointer.

The best shot to take is the closest one you can get. But once you get outside of the 15-foot range, you might as well try to become adept at shooting 3's.

Free Throws is absolutely what he needs to focus on. Imagine his numbers if he shot 70 or 75 percent from the line.... Also, he needs to get better at facing the basket and getting to the rim. He has great post moves but most of his touches come with his back turned to the rim.

I teach my kids all the time, the worst shot in basketball is one or two steps inside the 3 pt line!

Defenses are reacting to this also, however. They're letting opponents shoot unguarded deep 2's a lot more than they used to. That then begs the question: Is a wide open 2 a better shot than a contested jumper from the free throw line?

That's the beauty of sports. Constant adaptation.

In McGrath's press conference following the W&M game he talked about the zone being effective because it made them take shots that they don't normally take, and by guys that weren't used to shooting from that spot. I think it goes along with what you're saying, Nation. Some of the shots were open looks (and they still made a lot of them), but his goal was to take away a strength, or a comfortable shot. Even if they were open, he felt like his defense was dictating who/where and therefore, a success.

Yeah, often times you give up a shot, it goes in, and you say, i can live with that. But if you make that player take that same shot odds are in your favor over the course of a long game usually.

Yep, and he made a smart move by attacking the middle of the zone against Hofstra with guards who could hit that shot.

RE: Cacok - SEA33HAWK - 02-13-2018 05:03 PM

Any made shot is not a bad shot. Unless it's a two with time running out and down three. Plus, Cacok will never be a three point shooter in the NBA. In my opinion, with as far back as the NBA line is, It's a waste of time when Cacok needs to be working on 12-15 foot shots.

Eh, I disagree. There are times when guys miss open looks, but you can still say it was a good shot. Over the course of time, you'd expect those same shots to go in in the future.

Teams are more efficient than they've ever been because they're looking closely at shot selection.

I do agree that Cacok will likely never be able to hit a 25-footer at the NBA level with any consistency. But it can't hurt to test his range and see what he's capable of. He's starting to hit that 12-15 footer with more consistency, which is nice to see.
