I would think if they're moving forward with adding this to a public agenda and bringing it a vote they're confident the other parties involved will follow through as well. Is that a safe assumption?

This seems like a decent indication that the project may actually move forward!

Well, someone has to make the first public move if the log jam is going to ever be broken. Good news!

The B'ham City Council postponed a committee meeting today... same committee that would have a say in the funding of this project.
Think they want to see if the JeffCo Commission approves this expenditure first?

This wasn't on their agenda though.

JeffCo Commission to consider $30M commitment for stadium project

Still sounds a bit like local political business as usual everyone says they're on board but when $$$ gets involved everyone waits for someone else to pony up first but no one ends up making the first move.

Boy, that doesn't instill any confidence at all. Randall Woodfin needs to realize he's mayor and start leading.

Yeah this whole "I'm committed to discussing it" routine is getting really old. Take a position and advocate for it!

The Jeffco commitment is for $1 million per year for 30 years. Is that as good a promise as $30 million right away? If B'ham should make the same kind of promise over the same span of time, when could actual construction begin? Does it mean that sometime in the next 30 years (now to 2048) we will have enough money in hand to actually start building? It seems that even in the Jeffco statement there are floating commitments of backing from several sources besides B'ham.

Both the city and county commitments are over a period of time, not all at once. It would go towards bonds issued by the BJCC Authority to pay for the projects

Let's be blunt Mr. Mayor. You have a cesspool in the Norwood/Carraway sector of town, which is next door to this project. If you want anyone to begin investing in the area and improving the quality of life for the majority of the residents who play by the rules and want more out of their life, you might want to get this project built and see what grows up around it.

I'd be happy to give you a guided tour of the area around Nationals Park here in DC that was a crime ridden sinkhole 15 years ago and now is a major revenue producer for the city due to the housing growth around the park, and the development of stores that serve the neighborhood.

I really like the way this is going to be laid out. I can see people coming for a game and staying in the area for hours before or after for other events.

I can't wait to walk to bars from my hotel before the game, going to the game then hanging out afterward. No driving at all for me.

I wonder is we can get by with simply signing a million a year lease as our share to keep Mayor happy.

RE: Jeffco antes up - TheGORILLA - 01-10-2018 09:01 PM

This is absolutely fantastic news! Sounds like they have their ducks in a row. It's going to happen a lot sooner than we expected. I hope they have a live webcam of construction, just as they did when they constructed Legacy Pavilion and the UAB Football Operations Center.

I'm not really even comfortable with that. If UAB is going to be a "tenant," and not an "owner," then the school shouldn't be putting up funds for building it. The school will be putting up funds by paying to use it.
