JMU - CAA Game 2 - Tribal - 12-31-2017 09:06 AM

JMU committed 27 personal fouls, shot poorly overall, and abysmally from the 3 vs NU. Both NU guards torched the Dukes.

I really hope Tony and his staff get our guys fired up. A potential let down game but I see us playing well and starting conference play 2-0. Defending the 3 isn't our strong point but it looks like the Dukes don't exactly excel in that department. Let's jump on them like we did a few years ago and go up 36-3 or whatever it was...

Anybody headed to Harrisonburg?

Interesting how JMU's roster has turned over. Last season the joke was that with players from Serbia, Lithuania, Haiti and New Zealand, JMU was not very good on the court, but they had a hell of a Model UN team.
But this season, not an international player on the roster.

It was 1/31/15 and it was 37-8 as part of an easy win at the Convo. Just hoping for a win on Tuesday night.

The game is streamed on collegesportslive. Is there a fee for that on Roku? I downloaded the channel. Not sure if Madzone is covering it.

The next 4 games are important to us to 1). continue to build confidence; 2). prove we can win conference games on the road; 3). prove that we can beat a team twice; 4). prepare the guys for the most difficult part of the schedule; 5). solidify the adjustments made during the semester break.

I watched a football game on collegesportslive through Roku without issue/cost.

Tribe is a 2 pt underdog

We're 2.5 point dogs? Am I missing something?

BPI also thinks we lose.

Crush those f-ers

Have to show that this team can win on the road. So far they have done that to mixed results. That high point result is a big glaring wart on the resume.

Well, I can't see it (the 2.5 dog sounds like a good bet...if you are in to that sort of thing...), but if we lose, it's only 9 days till we get them again. You gotta love the CAA scheduling computer (you know, the one where they reach into a hat...)

I would rather the team be underrated and win some of these games. I am a little surprised at the line for this game too, but I also remember our significant struggles on the road. Hope we get a good effort tonight and both of the next 3 games as well. This is a massive opportunity for a great start while still flying under the radar. On paper, it would appear that Towson, Charleston and Northeastern are the favorites with Hofstra and us next. So, having a chance to win 3 road games early before facing the top teams is a rare scheduling opportunity for the Tribe. Plus, we get all 3 of those games without students for the opposition.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2 - Rocco - 01-02-2018 12:08 PM

This doesn't take quality of opponent into consideration, but still (only counting stats against 1-A teams):

Home: 4-0, 91.5 ppg average, 55.8% FG, 54.5% 3 PT
Road: 2-4, 75.3 ppg average, 46.1% FG, 37.2% 3 PT

W&M at home would rank 4th in the nation in PPG behind Oklahoma, Duke and Portland State. Their home FG% would top the nation (they're 3rd already) and they already lead the nation in 3 point shooting. Their 3 point shooting against Savannah State is a big outlier so far in their road shooting. Savannah State is also at the moment far worse than anyone W&M will face in conference play. The road numbers aren't bad per se and would probably be fine if W&M were average defensively.

Sagarin has us as 5.5 point favorites. That's more in line with what I expected.

Personally, I'm not gonna touch our lines in an away game because it seems that we can shoot ourselves in or out of any contest. If we have an off night the Dukes could run away with it but I am very much hoping that doesn't happen.

We should win by 20 if we play well on both ends of the court. This would be a great chance to get ahead and give Cohn some time off.

There are two ends of the court?

I don't think we can beat anyone in the CAA by 20 on the road. This team has a chance to be pretty special if it can carry the home vibes on the road and win 3 games(even 2 of the next 3 would be a significant improvement over last season). The only road wins we have so far are at Savannah St and at George Mason. The Mason win was a good one, but they should have lost at JMU and were bailed out by a terrible sequence of calls in the final 10 seconds of that game. I'll take a win by any margin tonight and the same if the Tribe can find it on Friday and Sunday. Go back and look for ANY time that the Tribe won 3 straight on the road in conference. I'd like to see Cohn and Knight get a rest because we are way ahead late, but I doubt we will see it again all year, especially on the road. I am definitely thrilled with the results so far for this team, but the league is not a cakewalk for anyone and there is no team substantially better than the rest. Plus, JMU and UNCW have the added incentive of not wanting to lose the first 2 games in league play at home tonight.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2 - Tribe32 - 01-02-2018 03:53 PM

Well, we'll know by about 9:30 tonight. I don't think JMU has much to bring to the dance, and my big IF was if we play well on offense and defense. I don't think we've done that this year in any game so far home or away (not counting Milligan, et al). JMU doesn't shoot well and doesn't have any depth to speak of. Sure we could lay an egg, but it is a good match up for us
