Illinois - ThunderDan49 - 12-30-2017 04:11 PM

Tied at 4 after the first 4:30. Looks like this is going to be a game of who can actually score the basketball. Both teams have had wide open looks that haven't fallen.

Are you getting sound? I subscribed via BTN2go on Roku... there’s no sound. It’s 16-15 Illinois with 10:14 to go, first half.

RE: Illinois - ThunderDan49 - 12-30-2017 04:37 PM

Illinois is up 23-22 with 3:50 to go in the half. GCU has had a hard time trying to contain Leron Black of Illinois. Some of the double teams have worked, but they need to do a better job of deciding who is going to go over and help on D.

GCU has also had a hard time getting through illinois’ defense. Settling for a lot of shots from beyond the arc. Also...why did GCU get a bench warning? Looks like Dan is pretty calm best I can tell.

32-27, Lopes up at the half!!

Could not get sound for about the first 8 minutes of the game. It is working for me now though. For a Power5 conference the BigTen network is not that impressive.

He was also inside the coaches box, so my guess is that he said something to the ref trying to get a call and he hurt the refs feelings.

I had the same issue. I found links and I just figured the links were bad, then it magically showed up sometime after the second tv timeout.

Lever and Frayer are giving the Illini fits right now on the offensive end. Our defense overall is excellent. The Illini average around 80+ points a game so holding them to 27 at the half is tremendous.

Yeah the sound finally worked half way through the first half... poor tech support experience though. You can tell this isn’t the “true” BTN experience and production quality. I paid $10 to watch this game!! Ha!

I did see the temperature was -1 degrees up there right now, so, I’m kind of happy I chose not to drive six hours north to watch it in Champaign. Brrr!

Very encouraged by the first half though. So long as we contain Black, I think we have a legit shot st winning!!

RE: Illinois - Raider_Lope - 12-30-2017 05:35 PM

Braun’s slump is continuing. He’s only made one shot all game. Not sure when he’s gonna shake this off, but hopefully soon as conference play starts in a week.

RE: Illinois - ThunderDan49 - 12-30-2017 05:35 PM

Tied at 49 with 7:53 left in the game. I hope Shaq is able to come back for this game, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't with how hard he has been hit the last two times. Josh and Casey do not look great right now offensively and it is one of the biggest reasons this game is still close.

RE: Illinois - Raider_Lope - 12-30-2017 05:50 PM

57-54 with 2:16 left. Black is doing everything for Illinois today. It’s a nail biter. Hang on, Canyon!!!

Disappointing loss. We’ve been close in a couple of big games like this one and Boise... just couldn’t pull out the win in either. We were right there. Here’s hoping we can close out the close ones in conference play.

RE: Illinois - ProfScott - 12-30-2017 06:09 PM

Tough loss! On the positive side neither Braun or Benson played well at all. Hoping they will come around once WAC play starts next Saturday.

I appreciate the optimism. I was it was contagious. Coach said post-game that bench players need to come in the game hot, or they'll find their way right back to the bench. Can't imagine how tough it is being stuck on the bench for missing 2 shots when starting senior guards are passing on open looks, missing layups, shooting a combined 2-14 on shots they do take, and making critical fouls and/or turnovers in the final 4 minutes. You know. When it matters most.

At this point, it's hard for me to believe they are anything other than what they are. I have a lot of hopes for this GCU team and players, as I genuinely want them to succeed. Unfortunately, I am also a realist who leans toward pessimism at times. I want to believe in this team, but need to see more before I'm convinced they are anything different than what they've already shown themselves to be.

The program is getting better though. We as a fan base get hyped up. Last year we had good reason for that. This year, admittedly it’s been disappointing. We haven’t really had a true quality win yet. We gave up a few opportunities to make statements. So far we have proven ourselves to be a team that can beat up on MEAC and SWAC teams consistently. New Mexico State has made a couple of big statements this year. I think they may beat us both times this season. Not sure about Bakersfield. I think we may lose one to UVU. It really just depends on who shows up each game. The talent is there to win the WAC. It just takes the guys consistently playing at the level that they’re capable of playing. I hold out hope for a great conference record. I think if we lose three or less, we will get to the NIT. NMSU will likely win in Vegas and be regular season champs. Since they’ll opt to go to the big dance, we could get the NIT bid as regular season runners up.

Again, I’m in no way giving up on this team or assuming this season is a bust. The games start mattering most on Saturday. If we get hot in late February it could be a very special season. I have watched every game this year and I’ll watch the rest. I’m hoping for the best.
