Any idea what the buyout on the contract is?

RE: Lane Kiffin signs a 10-year deal with FAU - MTPiKapp - 12-19-2017 01:17 PM

Buyout terms will actually show how serious his commitment to FAU is. How steep it is after 2018 and how soon and at what rate it starts decreasing will mean far more than the length of the contract. Congrats on likely taking him off the table for at least a couple of years.

is any possible buyout too much for the big school? i hope he stays for 10 years and then some, but i really don't think this changes anything in regards to leaving for a school in a major conference. they will pay whatever they need to pay. good news is that fau will get some cash

I think the publicity alone that's garnered from this 10-year deal is good for Florida Atlantic, as well.

No, but the windfall from a big enough buyout could possibly pay for an adequate coach to replace him plus a possible home and home.

It's a sliding scale and probably varies from situation to situation.

Based on the length, I'd hope the buyout after 2018 is exorbitant, something like $10M+, without too rapid a decline in subsequent years.

$10M wouldn't deter the very top programs if they were 100% sold that Kiffin was their guy, but mid tier P5s that may have only been looking to pay him something like $12M/5 years, probably wouldn't want to spend another $10M on signing him.

I'm stunned and also curious to the buyout. That will tell the real story.

It's possible that we threw enough money to keep him comfortable and living in Boca Raton might make him want to stay.

Unbelievable.

Boca Raton making big bucks......what a sacrifice.

The avg FBS coach stays at school something like 3.2 two years, so whatever we get over that is a win.
We will also get a solid buyout.
Man I need to take some time and go back and look at every bum comment who said he would leave and we would be on probation after one year.

You're right Boca is a great place to live and it's not a sacrifice.

Living in Mississippi is a sacrifice for anyone.

Will Kiffin's presence help us secure a better TV deal?

For the first time since we've been associated, I feel like FAU is finally trying to put it all to together. Now, get to work on that basketball program.
