This is an example of why I chuckle when people say the Power 5 are going to form their own separate governing organization.

Still think a P5 separation is possible but can't say I'm surprised big 10 caved in; especially since non of the other P5's followed suit I pretty much assumed the movement was DOA

No its not. Not if they want to retain their non profit amateur status.

NDSU athletic director spills the beans but Big Ten does no press release.Weak.

Well when you rail against the SEC for years about their OOC scheduling I doubt you want to draw attention to the fact you are not brave enough to go full FBS.

They have plenty of money to pay G5 teams it is them just wanting less of a chance of being upset. Probably a lot of whining from AD's from the bottom half of the conference.

I read somewhere that this was only a partial cave. I think it will now depend on your home schedule

Just made home cannon fodder games cheaper by getting an FCS than a weak G5. Game counts to Bowl Eligiblity just like a weak FBS team.

"Caving" is a big of a misnomer. They did not cave, their conference scheduling changed, and they made a small adjustment. The Big Ten now has a 9 game conference schedule, therefore in alternate years teams will have either 4 or 5 conf home games. In the years they only have 4, they are now allowing 1 FCS school.

You can argue semantics, but it's largely due to ease scheduling logjams. Specifically, half the conference competing to find teams willing to go on the road for one-off games, every other year, with no return games.

There are only 10-12 schools that could financially and athletically do it and be profitable. Its basically the same 10-12 schools this sham of a playoffs is set up for. Schools like Duke, NC State, Vanderbilt, and others would die trying to do a P5 only schedule.

I think the misnomer about P5 only breakaway. Many G5 schools would still be willing to play P5 for the payday, they would be much like the FCS. The seperation would probably allow a G5 game and FCS game to go along with qualifying wins for bowls. Note - I don't think the seperation would occur, too many schools depend on the P5 for money. The other schools would buckle like they did for Autonomy.

The problem is you run out of weak G5 teams fast when every P5 teams in the country is playing one or two a year. Then Indiana or Northwestern cant find a game unless it is an above average G5.
