Next Year's Team - Coast2Coast - 04-18-2017 07:09 AM

I thought I'd start a separate thread on next year's lineup. Assuming everyone returns, a BIG assumption at this point, I feel like we are one good Power Forward away from competing for the CAA championship again.

PG -Taylor/Talley/Richmond
SG - Fornes/Richmond
SF - Bryce/Fornes
PF - ? /Cacock/Bryan
C - Cacock/Elmore/Bryan

If we can keep this nucleus, surely we can get some recruits. I honestly feel we are a few players from being really good again. Why wouldn't a recruit want to come into a program where they will get a chance to play a lot and a chance to win a Championship? I'd love to see us pickup a few grad transfers, maybe a JUCO or two, and a few freshman.

I'd like to see Cacock expand his game. I think he's got the hands and body to be a good post-up player. To take his game to the next level I think he's got to be a Power Forward. I'd love to see him slide over to PF and us bring in a Grad transfer or JUCO center. I'm hoping Bryan doesn't see the floor much if at all.

I'm really hoping we start getting some commitments soon! I think getting a little momentum going would help tremendously!

All of this looks good, but there's no way I'd put Elmore in the 5 over Bryan. Bryan is no Cacock, but he's definitely quicker than Elmore from what I've seen.

I think at least initially, McGrath would lean on Talley as his starting PG.

Taylor was told by Keatts that, essentially, he would "lead this team" (per Taylor's comments last year), but Keatts isn't here anymore. Taylor will have to earn that starting job. There's a good chance he can/will, but my Day 1 starter at PG would be Talley.

My gut tells me Taylor is going to be really good. I agree Talley will probably be the day 1 starter but I hope Taylor can beat him out eventually. Either way, both will probably play a lot...along with Richmond. I don't think Richmond got enough playing time last year - I think he could be really good.

I'm also hoping Elmore can improve a lot going into his sophomore year. He's not quick but he at least has more size and bulk than Bryan. I do not think Elmore would have to improve much to help us more than Bryan (to put it nicely).

Richmond was stuck behind Mosley who was just about as deadly from 3 as it gets. That guy could shoot, as seen in the UVA tournament game. I didn't think he was given enough opportunity in that game. Should have given him about 5-10 more shots at the pace he was going.

Elmore is not a 5 in any scenario. He is an outside shooter and face to the basket scorer. He also does not have the bulk of Bryan for the position. If he's not being used as an outside scorer, he has no spot on this team.

I do agree we are a center or power forward away from being at the top. Cacock is great for us at center, but for his sake he needs to become a power forward if he wants to play at the next level. Regardless of who starts a PG, we need a player who will attack the basket. I know Talley will, and I've heard Taylor does. I also love the way Talley pushes the ball off the defensive rebound.

I see Cacok as a PF in a traditional lineup, but I have no idea how he'll be used in the future. My ideal scenario would be juco or grad transfer post players and sign the Estime kid as well. If Bryce is here, the only holes are in the post, and the SF/SG positions are interchangeable.
