Reading the Ohio message board he was out a good bit, and when cleared, was slowly eased in before the playoffs. Then, I read that he got concussed and broke his collarbone in the the state playoffs. Rough year, but it might help explain how he fell off a cliff as far as season accolades. I saw him listed at 210lbs some places online. His coach in a recent article said he is 190lb. Hopefully healed and conditioned Ben is closer to that 210 number. 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - mrjoolius - 05-20-2019 07:15 AM Missed this tweet from JJ Sullinger after Ben decommited - former Buckeye and NBA athlete about Wight. https://mobile.twitter.com/JJSullinger/status/1113151656894631936 "I’m saying this on here for everyone to see... Ben Wight’s best basketball is ahead of him!! His potential hasn’t even scratched the surface!!! Anyone that lands this kid, will be pleasantly surprised on how much he will improve from Summer ‘19 to the start of the 19-20 season!!" Reading about his hard luck, injury plagued senior year, it wouldn't surprise me if Wight raises some eyebrows upon arrival in Williamsburg. RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - nj alum - 05-20-2019 07:37 AM After the events of the past two months, and with the transfer portal explosion in college athletics, it’s one year at a time now. If Sullinger is right, how long will Wight stay in W’burg? The sport/system has some major long-term issues, IMO. 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - mrjoolius - 05-20-2019 08:06 AM True. There are some huge issues with this portal process. It certainly puts midmajor schools in a bind retaining talent. I am curious once the dust settles, how many of the 600+ in the portal left or stayed at their current school. RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - Tribe32 - 05-20-2019 08:20 AM I'm curious to see how many forfeited their scholarships by entering the portal. That's the big downside and will certainly change behavior if schools start using it to rescind scholarships. His son, Jalen, was the star soph PG on Ben's HS team. https://youtu.be/5ri9ntPMqE8 RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - TribePride91 - 05-20-2019 11:58 AM Seems like a potential great fit especially when you factor in Luke Loewe's own personal injury story. Hope Ben loves it in Williamsburg and the Tribe gets a great find. Sounds like he will be a great student either way. I also still think players bond together as a team with their coaches. I would be surprised if any of the new guys enter the portal next season. It wasn't until his third year that we didn't realize his potential!! Not that it matters, but that is actually Jared Sullinger's older brother. Both attended Ohio State, but only Jared played in the NBA. RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - Tribeheart - 05-20-2019 05:43 PM Saw information that Wight was young for his class and found this tweet from last summer which implies he is still only 17, similar to Nathan's scenario, but without the benefit of a postgrad year. Ben scored 245 pts his junior year in the 20 games he played. Due to injury, he only played in 17 games this year, but led the team in scoring most of those games with a high of 25 pts in one outing. Prior Tribe recruit, Jaxson Hayes (referenced below and who only turns 19 this week), was a one and done at Texas this year, and is projected #5 in the NBA Draft. Ben will only be 18 at the equivalent time next year. Granted highlight tapes can be deceiving, but the upside appears there for Ben to have a very strong college career here. Glad he'll be in a Tribe uniform. Can say the same about Mehkel. Andreas James @AndreasJames7 2019 6'8 Ben Wight (Thomas Worthington) will be in this category! 16 years old.... · Jun 29, 2018 Quote Tweet Kurt J. Stubbs II @Ohiohshoops A wise man told me when I first started evaluating ? to never write off a young big. It’s a slow cook and you have to monitor them differently. Jaxson Hayes scored a total of 33 points his junior year at Moeller and Mo Njie totaled 47 points as a soph at Centerville. #bepatient 9:14 PM · Jun 29, 2018 RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - WillaMary08 - 05-22-2019 04:06 PM (05-07-2019 06:45 AM)WillaMary08 Wrote: Phenom Exposure tweets: Littlejohn commits to Queens. In fact I can't find him anywhere!! 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - HoopManVA - 05-22-2019 09:38 PM For Will Oneal I had to make sure it wasn't April 1st on the calendar. Kind of reminds me of that bogus pitcher in Sports Illustrated that was throwing hundred twenty mile an hour fastballs back in the day. I can't find anything on the kid really outside of a couple tweets. I think it's bizarre also that he's narrowed his list but I don't see where any of these schools have even officially offered him. I don't know, stranger things have happened. Maybe he'll sign with us, start as a freshman and average 55 points a game. Did he go to Hogwarts? Would love to know more about him, but seems to be playing the mystery card! 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - HoopManVA - 05-22-2019 09:42 PM Yeah, how can the tweets not even have his high school or his AAU team? At least good old Maves and Alden and a few other churchgoers liked the tweets. Doesn't look like he did, his coach, or any coach or anything to do with basketball.
