James has already narrowed his choice to nine schools (including Duke and UVA but not including UNC) so the Tribe was probably watching someone else. Tom Welch plays for the Illinois Wolves.

The Beran to the Tribe train is leaving the station...It very well may, come his July finish in Vegas, but until then, I still believe Tony has a legitimate shot, based on Beran's character/academic priorities, his sister (who he is close to) being a Christopher Newport student, family in Richmond, and the trajectory of the program. Though GA Tech is a great school academically and gives a chance at ACC level play, their coach doesn't approach Tony on so many levels, they have a load of other 6'9"/6'10" players on their roster, and Beran will not be a primary focus for them with the glut of other offers they have out. Until a UVA or UNC gets involved, I'd like to hope we're still in there.
