RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - WillaMary08 - 05-28-2018 04:38 AM

Robbie Beran and Scott Smith now following each other. Makes sense because I think Robbie and Burke both play for Team Richmond Garner Road.

Though he played very well, David Roddy's AAU team did not make the Peach Jam.

Kyle Rode is playing in the Kentucky-Indiana junior all star games this weekend. Interesting that they have him listed at 6'8". Don't think so.

Find myself imagining that there is a sliver of hope that Tyler Bertram has us on his radar still. That there is a comfort factor with Tony and staff, the school, his teammate and doubles partner, our history of 3 pt shooting, and our involvement from way back. He's well over 20 offers, picked up his first HM offer with ECU last week (if you consider that HM), is getting interest from other HM's, has been a leading shooter on the EYBL circuit, and his team qualified for the Peach Jam.

It's notable that we have not offered a PG/SG for 2019 yet, when we have so many PG/SG names we are following. Is there still another 2018 or transfer in the picture? On the other hand, wouldn't it be great if we were holding any offers on that second schollie on the oft chance that after the Peach Jam and July AAU period, Bertram communicated he wanted to come, if he received no other HM offers that became more coveted. It just strikes me as odd, but possibly intentional, that we have not officially extended him an offer, when so many of our peers have, and knowing the background. Maybe an understood slot has been built in the 2019 plan? Otherwise, guess my imagination has gone amuck, again.

RE: 2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting - mrjoolius - 05-31-2018 10:51 AM

I think there is some gamesmanship played in recruiting. I think mid majors like to slide interest under the radar to keep suitors away. Not sure if it applies to Bertram since the secret is out. I know in the past, it seems as though as soon as certain teams extend an offer- a train of other schools follow suit. It could be a result of limited recruiting resources- if the player is good enough or academically qualified at school X, he should qualify at school Y. You see it all the time with borderline HM recruits. A kid will get his 1st P5 offer, and then soon after get a string of P5 offers.

I think the Tribe coaches employ the strategy of recruiting guys hard without formally presenting an offer until far along in the process, even though the intention is there all along. Pure speculation on my part, but it wouldn't surprise me if true.

Jonathan Holmes now following Keenan Worthington’s coach at Blair Academy. Blair also has a ‘19 6’3” SG Jordan Dingle getting some DI offers.

Holmes also liked a couple tweets talking about David Roddy:

Pulley Hoops tweets:
“Congratulations @droddy22 on being named Honorable Mention All #EYBL Hampton Session 4, (4th time) for his 14.8ppg 8.5rpg 2.8apg. David is among #Nike's steadiest players #PULLEYHOOPS”

And Roddy tweeted this video:

Julian Boatner now following Charlie Weber’s coach at Bishop O’Connell.

And then he went out and won his HS Sectional in the discus and shot put, setting a Sectional record in the discus. Remarkable, throwback athlete.

Roddy got a football offer to Wyoming and a basketball offer to Wofford.

Jonathan Holmes and the head coach at Madison Central High in Richmond, KY are now following each other. 6’8” Isaiah Cozart (offers from Belmont and Eastern Kentucky) plays for Madison Central. He has a 7’2” wing span and is one of the top shot blockers in Kentucky high school history.
