Perhaps. It would appear to me, however, that Ben’s “spot” on the roster is currently occupied by Cooper Rush, who could be traded.

Rush is set to make $2.1 million. Can’t see Dallas paying a 3rd sting QB that money. In Ben’s favor there.

Fantastic point. As it turns out, precisely zero of that $2.1 mil is guaranteed. Dalton's your #2, McCarthy still gets his project in DiNucci on the cheap, Rush gets kicked to the curb.

I agree with that. Dalton has not been very impressive in Cincy, and the fact is Dak has not been very impressive lately in Dallas. Wide open opportunity!

Dalton has not been impressive in Cincy? How so? He’s made the Pro Bowl multiple times, helped Cincy win double-digit victories for something like a decade, and helped Cincy make 4 consecutive playoff appearances. The fact Dalton hasn’t won in the playoffs is besides the point as it takes more than a QB to win. I’d say Dalton’s history in Cincy is darn impressive.

#ProDukes - JMUDunk - 05-04-2020 05:32 AM

And it’s pretty well established that the ‘pokes will stick with a QB that only wins a playoff game or two every decade with the Romo experience.

They were last relevant when? Around the time Lefty was still in charge?!?

More recent than the foreskins, but still.

Give Ben a shot, maybe Ol Tejas will allow the finger guns!

Interesting that Ben will wear assigned jersey #1 in Dallas.
And where are all the critics who questioned Ben’s arm? Seems the Cowboys and other NFL teams think Ben has an arm capable of making any throw.

I love nooch. I love when he steamrolled 23 from Richmond, may he rest in peace. I love when he gave us finger-guns at NC State. Love him.

Cooper Rush was waived this morning.

About time. Maybe The Clapper will have him back up Daniel Jones in NY. Rush was the king of the 5 yard pass. 03-puke

Lay down the pipe and back away, Horny! The Bengals haven't been to the playoffs since 2015, which was the last year they had a winning record. Last year they went 2-14. Dalton's TD/int ratio last year was 16/14. Maybe all of that is "darn impressive" in Hornyland, but it sucks bad in the real world. This may also be news to you, Horny. So darned impressed with Dalton were the Cincinnati Bengals that they chose a quarterback with their first pick this year. What's that tell you, Horny? Pretty "darn impressive," huh?

RE: #ProDukes - JMUPride - 05-04-2020 07:16 PM

Even post-Dalton signing, Dinucci projected to make final squad by SBNation (Cowboys keep 3 QBs on active roster). Cooper Rush getting released helps Dinuccis cause.

Also, Carter projected to make practice squad - "Ron’Dell Carter looks like the PS candidate, and will get playing time if anyone misses a game or two with injury."

RE: #ProDukes - Purple - 05-04-2020 07:29 PM

I truly believe that Nooch is better than Dalton. If Dak fails to sign, this could be awesome. May Ben be on his best game. Jerry Jones is a guy who could give a doodly about name recognition. He will drop Dak like a hot potato if he thinks he can mold Nooch into a Tony Romo type. Romo came from FCS. The Cowboys have already seen enough of Nooch to waive Rush. The stars could be aligning for the Nooch.

Dak could be getting a little nervous seeing so many quarterback additions and deletions happening in Frisco. He may cave and sign due to that pressure. If he does, he still has to perform. He has likely lost a bit of stock value to the front office due to the holdout. They will be watching closely and expecting a high level of performance. Things could get wild in Frisco this summer and fall.

Ok, whose been hitting the pipe? 03-lmfao

We’re both fans of Ben, and both of us have consistently supported his play while at JMU, but let’s get real. Ben is not better than Dalton right now, particularly from the perspective of experience playing on the NFL as a starter. Let’s let Ben make the roster before we put him in the NFL HOF.

Yea, calm down there buddy. It's easier to make a case Dalton is as good as Dak. For at least the immediate future Nooch is a step down from both.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This sounds like the same business I heard in 2017 from those who thought Nooch should be benched.

Here is a little history and why I say that Nooch is in the perfect situation on the perfect team. As I have already stated, the stars will have to be aligned for Nooch to become the starter, but it is much easier in Dallas than some of you think. The stars aligned for the past two franchise quarterbacks in Dallas, Romo and Prescott. Jerry Jones could give a doodly about Andy Dalton's NFL experience. He cares about performance NOW! He benched 12-year veteran Drew Bledsoe for undrafted free agent Tony Romo when Bledsoe began stinking up the field. The stars aligned. (when I say Jones is making these decisions, make no mistake, Jerry Jones runs the Dallas Cowboys). Romo became the face of the franchise. Suffering a back injury in the 2016 pre-season, Romo missed ten games. Dak got the start. The stars aligned. For those of you who believe that NFL experience is such a big factor in deciding which quarterback gets called up, consider that Dallas chose to start rookie Dak Prescott over veteran Mark Sanchez. Dak is now the franchise QB but is on thin ice, IMO.

Whether it be injuries or poor performance, the stars will have to be aligned in Dallas for Nooch. It could happen this year, it could happen next year or the following. But, one thing is certain - those stars aligned perfectly for the past two franchise quarterbacks in Dallas, and I have no reason to believe that it is impossible for the stars to align again. In fact, the odds are in favor it. Before anything else happens, Nooch has to continue to impress the Cowboys while keeping an eye on the sky for an aligning of the stars.

RE: #ProDukes - jmufan2008 - 05-05-2020 07:15 AM

Ben needs to absorb every bit of information and technique from Dalton that he can this year...he's not playing in from of Dalton. Even if you think their skill level is equal, Dalton has 9 years under his belt (with a winning record and 4 seasons making the playoffs in Cincinnati). Should there be preseason games, Ben will get his chance to run some plays, but the Cowboys aren't going to drop that much money to bring in an experienced backup and not use him over a 7th-round rookie. Dalton isn't going to be around long, so Ben needs to work hard and ask a lot of questions to put himself in a good position should something happen...but he's not gonna be the first backup this year.
