Tonight is a must see if you're a JMU fan. Yourcallfootball is an app where you actually get to call the plays for a real football game. It's a pretty cool concept.
Well, tonight playing for Team Grit, two JMU greats are going to be teaming up again.
Vad Lee and Khalid Abdullah!
Tonight at 8pm the game will be played on the yourcallfootball app. I definitely plan on tuning in and playing.

Not to nitpick, but the AAF is just those three letters. I don't believe they use "league" in their name.

It's been solid football worth watching. Surprisingly good crowds at almost every city but maybe Salt Lake. 15-30k crowds are typical. They just look smaller in such big stadiums.

Dukes pro day is tomorrow.

For anyone in town the outside portion is open to the public I believe.

RE: Pro Dukes - jmuroadwarrior - 03-26-2019 02:53 PM

From JMUFootball

Turning it up to level ?

40 times:
Jimmy Moreland 4.44
David Eldridge 4.46
Marcus Marshall 4.5

Pro shuttle:
David Eldridge 3.95 ‼️

RE: Pro Dukes - jmufan2008 - 03-26-2019 03:43 PM

Jimmy:
4.44 would tie for #7 at the combine for CBs **insert disclaimer about timing differences
39" vertical would tie for #10 at the combine for CBs
10' broad jump is outside the top 15 (#14/15 were 10'5")

Still, fast and has some ups. Still disappointed he didn't get a combine invite, but at least he's getting to show off today.

Lots of internet smoke today advising the new AAF is on the brink of closing shop (as early as this week). Here's my reaction when reading this on the net...

(did anybody REALLY think yet another one of these start-up league attempts was going to actually work?)

AAF says they need young players from the NFL players association to survive. Read: we want very good, cheap players, at lower than NFL rates.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2828148-aaf-allegedly-could-be-discontinued-if-nflpa-doesnt-provide-young-players.amp.html

Honestly this sounds like a negotiating tactic with NFLPA to me. Just a month ago they had a $250 million *additional* investment. If they blew $500+ million this fast, someone didn’t budget very well or football is a helluva lot more expensive than I thought. They are on a pace to spend $3 billion or more a year if true. XFL plans to spend 500+ million this year too. That’s not chump change.

Certainly is a lot of smoke, wow.

ESPN reporter Richard Tator says the AAF will announce it is closing Friday afternoon:

RE: Pro Dukes - Wear Purple - 03-28-2019 05:42 AM

Yep. People don't want to call it what it is.

That is, a "farm system" or "minor leagues" (to the NFL) already exists. It's called college FB.

P5 is kind of like AAA, G5 is AA, D1AA is A, and D2/D3 are rookie leagues. Since it is the big opening day for almost all of MLB, I thought I'd make the connections to MLB's "minors".

Yet, after more failures, in a few years we will hear again about some NFL development league that will pop up assuring us it will be different than all the others which have failed before it/them.

So does Orlando "win" the championship this year since they had the best record? Another championship for the former Dukes!

Folks in Orlando will claim the championship whether anyone else does or not.

It won’t be the first time it’s happened in that stadium.

That’s so disappointing that they didn’t even get to finish a single season. It was the best NFL competitor I’ve even seen in terms of how it operated and it was pretty legitimate.

Poor Johnny Manzel was signed and played a single game. I almost feel bad for him.

These leagues fail due to 1) the BS fan refusal to support anything they view as “not the top level”. It’s odd hearing that perspective from fans of an FCS team even more so.
2) money. Football is expensive across the country. You need money to succeed. The only real revenue is TV and TV wants guaranteed eye balls and butts in seats. It’s a vicious Chicken vs Egg argument that goes nowhere. TV wants fans, fans want top shelf perceptions of the product and easy channel accessibility. The reality is TV must invest to get fans. Then fans need to shut up and support. Easier said then done.

Pro Dukes - Potomac - 03-28-2019 10:41 AM

It’ll be a hard pass from me with the XFL. I can’t support something ran by Vince McMahon.

ESPN Radio retweets this guy a lot, so they must be in on the joke too, unless that account is phony too (looks real, links to a real ESPN station). That made me think it was legit, I figured he was a lesser known writer linked to the radio network.
