W&M to buy Days Inn on Richmond Road - soccerguy315 - 08-27-2016 12:13 PM

to use for student housing

... wish they would knock it down and rebuild something in the character of campus, but I understand that is expensive if the current structure is in acceptable condition.

Darn. That was a close, cheap place that I've stayed at before for homecoming.

Same here, Ho House and Days Inn were the go to spots.

I would not want to be stuck living there as a student

Th'Burg needs a downtown hotel other than a CW property IMHO...

They are planning to completely redo the facility from top to bottom...it will end up a fine place for students.
And with lots of parking and close access to the campus.

Between the undergrads and graduate students this year W&M appears to have topped the 8000 mark for the first time...they need the housing.

Is this the Day's Inn next to the BP station?

Seems more cost-effective to tear down and start over. Lots of wasted space with the pool and motel structure. Also, the ceilings are quite low in there and I dont know how that can be fixed.

Definitely need to talk to CW and see if they can recruit a developer to put a new hotel or 2 closer to campus.

No I think it's the one by the Wells Fargo building. In the "Arts District"

Definitely the one in the "Arts District". The hotel by the BP is a Motel 8, I think.

Oh okay, that is actually a pretty nice place. There isn't much left "walking distance" to the college, unless you stay at a B&B.

The city bought the motel 8 and will demolish the hotel some time in the near future and repurpose the property.
