RE: Future MBB Schedule - Dukester - 08-30-2019 03:35 PM

Is there reasoning behind this year's Eastern Mennonite game listed as "exhibition", and last year's not?

So some people on these boards can rest easier knowing we only have one D3 game this year? 04-cheers

I see their AD is a Tar Heel and worked in the department, but still, why on earth would UNC go there even on a 2 for 1?

They had a 2 for 1 w/ UNC back in 2008-2010. Charleston won the middle game at home.

Roy Williams has been doing some road games (2 for 1) at non P6 schools. They played at Wofford last year, at UNCW, to open Elon's new building last year. They opened UNC-Asheville's building a few years ago.

RE: Future MBB Schedule - Wear Purple - 10-22-2019 08:45 AM

As FYI, a few updates on this upcoming season's MBB schedule (the JMU Sports official schedule page hasn't yet updated these)...

1. The game at Mason on Nov. 16, Sat., is now scheduled for a 7pm tip and will be televised live via MASN (and streamed via ESPN+).

2. The game at ODU on Nov. 20, Wed., is now scheduled for a 7pm tip and will be streamed live via ESPN-3.

3. The game at Fordham on Dec. 20, Fri., is now scheduled for a 7pm tip and will be streamed live via ESPN+.

Note, the JMU Sports page still doesn't show it, but the game at UVA on Nov. 10, Sun., will be televised via ESPN-U (as was mentioned on this board several weeks ago).

The only pieces that are left are the game time for the home game against EZU on Nov. 30, Sat. I assume the administration is waiting to see if we have a FB playoff game that date. If the Dukes keep winning, we will of course likely have that date off with a bye in the FB playoffs.

The only other piece is TV/streaming for the road game at Radford on Dec. 4, Wed. The game is set for a 7pm tip and just awaiting the Big South and/or Radford to release the TV/streaming designation. Note, home Radford games in recent past have been streamed via ESPN-3 or ESPN+ and I expect one of those for our game there again.

Go Dukes!

dang I was hoping we could get this one on FloTV

RE: Future MBB Schedule - Wear Purple - 11-18-2019 10:31 AM

FYI...JMU has now set the Nov. 30 home game time vs EZU at 4pm. Note, the WBB Dukes will be tipping off at 2pm at UVA that same Saturday in a game that will be streamed live via ACC Network Extra.

edit note: also, the Dec. 4 game at Radford is confirmed to be streamed via ESPN+ per Radford's schedule

D1 schedule on Twitter is reporting that the JMU UVA game will be 11/19 which is a Thursday so I don’t think that will be the opener for the new arena. That may get some criticism here but I think if we had a say in the matter that’s smart. Assuming the world is safe I believe you will get a good crowd for the opener regardless of the opponent. Mind as well get another big crowd on a Thursday night vs UVA.

I love that UVA is not the opener for the new Arena.

- It means we have two potential sell out, or highly attended, games.
- Gives us a shot to give a good size crowd a win in the opener.

If we played UVA in the opener, and likely took a decent size loss, many students and fans might not even make it back to the second game.

To be quite honest my preference would be playing UVA no sooner than the 3rd home game.

“James Madison will host Virgina on November 19th to conclude their 2-year series, per public records obtained by @TheD1Docket.”

It's a total guess... but why not? The basketball schedule usually tips off the first weekend of November. With a late Homecoming this year, that would be a "good" time to open a new marquee facility on campus. Football will definitely cast a long shadow, but with alums on campus it wouldn't surprise me to have it be Friday or Saturday night (football game is always an early afternoon game). What a party would that be to tailgate all morning, do football from 1-4, get back out there and juice up from 4-7, and go have a basketball game. Put your big boy pants on kids; that would be a marathon. Go ahead and request off Monday 11/9 right now for that hangover.

RE: Future MBB Schedule - NJDuke97 - 04-28-2020 07:05 AM

Maryland East Shore at home 11/11. My guess is like others that the home opener will be prior to that over home coming weekend. Hoping it’s against someone good and worst case against ODU or Mason who are on our home schedule already.

RE: Future MBB Schedule - Wear Purple - 04-28-2020 02:54 PM

This past season the opening night day/date was moved up a few days from a Friday to a Tuesday IIRC. Not sure if they’ll stick with that.
