Harold Reynolds broke it down brilliantly on mlb network(he also had no problem with the retaliation) when Austin went into his slide, Holt was still in the pivot position, as a runner, your instinct is to break it up. After Austin started his slide, Holt moved his feet to a stretch(1b like stretch) for 1 out. Harold said he would have had more issue with the slide had Holt maintained the stretch position the entire time.

Reynolds also acknowledged that his cleats were up and high. Brock couldn've "given himself up" earlier sure. But they had no chance at 2 off of the bat. Regardless, the beaning wasn't charge-the-mound worthy, which is really what I took exception to.

Fair enough. I have no problem with him charging, why? Because F the Red Sox! Scumbags! COGS

My favorite quote was from Holt when asked why he didn't mix it up "they have some bid guys over there, i had no interest in mixing it up with them."

Actually, I can respect that response. The slide wasn't "dirty" but the spikes were up. But, if there's already an edge because of the rivalry, so be it.

I liked Holt's quote. Judge was moving the pile for sure.

Here's what Chipper had to say:

U slide in with ur spikes up and catch a piece, ur gonna get thrown at young fella. That’s how baseball works. It polices itself, whether people like it or not. That will never change. Love the spirit in both squads though. #Redsox/Yankees

Yeah, i saw Chipper's post. I can see both sides. But, I'm still glad he charged

With Today's rainouts thus far, 2018 has officially set the record for the most cancellations in the first month of baseball ever.

Nation, with the Cubs pitching woes the rumors that they'll target a front-line starter are picking up. I would still assume the likelihood of acquiring a starter is low, but deGrom is the "hot" name among the bloggers, and now some beat writers. Just thought I get your perspective...Cubs would need to 3 current major leaguers from what it sounds like and Happ, Russell and Montgomery are the three names everyone is throwing out, plus Alozay, our top pitching prospect.

Yanks already have a more impressive package than that in place. I don't think the Mets will move him unfortunately.

As sad as I'd be to see deGrom go, we really need to move him. And Thor as well. Don't know why we would wait to do that.

I know deGrom isn't a free agent until 2021, but still.

RE: 2016, 2017, and 2018 MLB Thread - bricksnivy - 07-20-2018 11:11 AM

Who would the Yankees offer and would the Mets deal crosstown? For the record, I think that Happ is vastly underrated. He's the best athlete on Chicago's roster, can play all over the field and has a power bat. We'd certainly be selling low on Russell, but he's great defensively and he's driving the ball now, average is not bad, but the power is not there. SS probably isn't the Mets' greatest need either, but they're two major league ready guys.

I'd love to hold to Monty.

I'm also old enough to remember when the Cubs were ridiculed for not pulling the trigger on a deal for Harvey with Baez as the main piece. I think Happ's ceiling is still really high.

RE: 2016, 2017, and 2018 MLB Thread - Seahawkhoops - 07-20-2018 11:33 AM

08 interesting and I think good take. One of my good friends is a huge Mets fan and doesn't want to sell either mainly because he has no confidence in the current front office to do a rebuild.

Bricks- I've heard the Yanks have offered Andjuar, Sheffield(their top pitching prospect, sub 2.5 between AA and AAA this year.), one of their top two OF guys(MLB ready, Mckinney or Frazier), plus a lower level guy that's in their top 20.
I agree with you about Happ, but none of the rest of the Cubs package impresses me. IMO Russell has been a gigantic bust

Bust is too strong, but his ceiling certainly isn't as high as was thought when we acquired him. He's probably the best defensive SS in league and is hitting .272. He's not Larkin, but if he can find the power his bat possessed in 2016 he'll be a star. At 24, it's way to early to use the b word.

Torres was in Class A Myrtle Beach when we traded him and he wasn't ready to help win a World Series in 2016. I know everybody (not you) wants to make that a thing, but I have no reservations about that trade.

Making the trade itself for Chapman is a no brainier, you prob don't win the Ws without him. I was just saying, i'd bet you'd rather have Torres than Russel. But heinsight is always 20/20

I haven't seen Torres play, but I would say is close to a consensus that Torres has a higher ceiling. I don't watch AL baseball unless I have to.

He's batting .294 with 15 bombs in his first 63 MLB games and has played great in the field.

Alderson has sucked at drafting but his trades have been pretty solid. The best trade in Mets history was his deal sending R.A. Dickey to Toronto for Thor and Catcher Travis d'Arnaud.

I think if I'm a Mets fan i'd be ok with losing 1 for a haul, the other is a guy you can build a staff around. There are plenty of other assets you can dump for prospects too. Familia, Cabrera, maybe even Cespy

The problem with that thinking is that by the time we field a competitive roster again, that ace we've been building around will be too old. Or have flamed out from injuries. There's only so many 98 mph fastballs in that right arm of Noah Syndergaard's. Meanwhile, the Phillies, Braves, and Nats are going to be ahead of us in the pecking order for several years with all the young talent they have.

I'd rather move them now at peak value, and start all over again.

Chris Hatcher has been "designated for assignment" by Oakland. Not sure what his future holds now - is he through in Oakland? Will he land somewhere else?
Too bad. Was hoping he'd hang with the As.

Hamels' performance was overshadowed by Scherzer and Bote, for sure, but Bote's story is real and relevant as well. Dude wasn't on the Cubs' top 30 prospects list in February and now he's a valuable glove and bat off the bench for a playoff team, maybe even a starter.

Also, what Bote did on Sunday hasn't been done since 1936.
