Jack Whitman was the man tonight!

RE: Northeastern Game - billymac - 01-09-2016 06:02 PM

Nice all around effort tonight. Excellent effort by Whitman. Hope he builds off this solid performance. He could be a real game changer with his height.

Agree. It was his best game for the Tribe.

It is exciting to be getting such positive contributions from Cohn and Whitman in a key game like this. The best way for this team to show upside improvement is turn these players from "play your minutes and don't mess up" athletes to outstanding contributors.

Cohn has really turned it on in conference play

Free throw shooting. :)

Seriously, though, great game all around from us. We handled their zone well (not many have zoned us this year) and got good looks everywhere. We're a bad matchup for NU because their offense is focused on the positions we defend the best. Ford did go off a little, but he didn't score 20 and we kept everyone else in check.

Good win for the Tribe today. Have to win at home in the CAA this year because no one will be easy on the road

That was Jack's best game ever in a Tribe uniform, We listened to Tony on the post game show on our way home and he said that he asked Jack who was that guy wearing his uniform tonight. Also, Malinowski was a beast off of the bench.

That might be as good as we can play. I just love it that when we are playing like we did this afternoon of offense, There is not a player on the floor who is not willing to take a shot.

When Omar puts his mind to it he is the best player in the CAA, along with Quincy Ford.

RE: Northeastern Game - BigTribe2 - 01-09-2016 07:45 PM

Wow! When they play like they did this afternoon they can beat almost anybody. This team is exciting to watch:
Northeastern is no stumblebum, but we made them look like that today.

Our depth, our team speed, our defense were big factors.

Great crowd, great game,

Well, Omar did miss that first free throw; and Tony said pre-game that the game would be decided at the FT line.............just sayin.........

Tribe 3-point defense was outstanding today, some shots were "missed" but many NE shot attempts were very well defended, and missed for that reason.

Tarpey with a double-double.

Great game, Tribe. Practice free throws.

Last year Northeastern was I believe 2-18 on 3s at Kaplan. They couldn't miss at home or in Baltimore against W&M.

At least they don't have Eatherton or Spencer this year to force our defense to key in on defending the paint...

RE: Northeastern Game - Tribal - 01-10-2016 12:57 AM

58% shooting
50% 3-pt shooting
43% FT shooting

How is that even possible? Poor FT shooting and too many fouls are really the only things of concern. We had some turnover issues early but our assist to turnover ratio for the whole game was excellent.

Big big win for the 1st place Tribe.

RE: Northeastern Game - BigTribe2 - 01-10-2016 08:01 AM

This was as great a team victory in virtually every facet of the game against a good opponent that I've ever seen the Tribe play.

Many were wondering before the start of the season is how this team would respond without Marcus on the court. It's still only about the halfway mark of the season, but...at least at this juncture...I have to say they are better.

Might be an interesting question for Tony at his upcoming luncheon at Anna's Brick Oven Tuesday at 11:30
this Tuesday.

RE: Northeastern Game - Mrs. Got Ribe - 01-10-2016 08:20 AM

Coach noted in the postgame that he moved Terry to defend Ford in the second half. Ford had 16 points in the first half and finished with 18!! That's stellar defense.

Defensively, it looked like we were in man most of the game.

RE: Northeastern Game - tribeinexile - 01-10-2016 09:46 AM

In the championship game last year they drove by us at will and dumped it off for threes. I think the key to yesterday was stopping the drives which eliminated the uncontested threes.

NE is a very good team and a worthy opponent in all ways, unlike some of the other teams that also give us a lot of trouble. They will be a difficult opponent in Boston and are still the main roadblock in March.

RE: Northeastern Game - billymac - 01-10-2016 10:04 AM

We played mostly man, but there was some of the 3-2 zone mixed in, especially in the first half, when Coach Shaver was changing defenses regularly, so the Huskies had to figure out what they were facing before they could attack.

We played very good man yesterday, with help and recover D, which prevented the drives and made them shoot more from long range.

It was an excellent effort. Big road week coming up against two strong teams.

RE: Northeastern Game - WMInTheBurg - 01-10-2016 10:40 AM

This game felt close the whole way, even though they weren't within 10 for most of the second half, and we were up about 20 with 4-5 minutes to go. We had our starters in and Dixon hit a 3 with under 2 minutes to go against their second team. Did Coach Shaver not realize the score/time left?
