DHC is a Dudley Award Finalist given to the state's top D-I football player

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-spt-dudley-20151207-story.html

The finalists are DHC, Richmond's RB Jacobi Green and JMU's Vad Lee. This is not an FCS award but includes D-I as well so UVA, Tech and ODU players were eligible but none were even named as a finalist.

I'm certainly rooting for DHC, but I can't imagine Green not winning.

RE: Dudley Award - Tribe32 - 12-09-2015 01:22 PM

I don't know if it's a done deal or not.

DHC had 14 points on returns and a safety (extra point return), 2 blocked punts, lead the team in tackles, played on special teams, had four INTs.

I don't know how he could be much better other than having a dozen picks or something like that. Fact is that he's the best defensive player for one year that I can remember in a long time. Reminds me of Sharper or Mark Kelso both of who played pretty well in the NFL.

RE: Dudley Award - tribe_pride - 12-09-2015 01:32 PM

Also, didn't Lee win the CAA offensive player of the year so he beat out Green for that award. Obviously, missing last 4 games will hurt for awards purposes but the CAA recognized him so he has a chance.

I think you could make a solid case for any of the three finalists, and therefore I wouldn't rule out DHC.

RE: Dudley Award - billymac - 12-09-2015 04:54 PM

I hope DHC wins, but it would be a bit of an upset, in ANY Award balloting, for a defensive player to beat an offensive player for the same Award (that's why most Awards are separate, offense/defense), unless he was also a kick returner/punt returner or had outrageous stats.

However, if we are choosing which of the three gets drafted first in the NFL Draft, I'm going with D'Andre.

Vad Lee again. Back to back. Really? No doubt that he is very talented, but let's, at least, take in to account that he didn't even finish the season. Almost seems to take away some of the value of the honor.

RE: Dudley Award - tribe_pride - 12-09-2015 10:20 PM

Lee played 8 of 11 regular season games, had the best passing % by 5% best QB Rating by 16 points, most TDs passing by 4, 900 fewer yards passing then Lauletta but had 814 yards rushing (101.8 yards per game) and 8 TDs that way. I can see giving it to him.

DHC was 2nd in voting 29-16. Not sure what Green had. As BillyMac said, guys on defense don't win these awards.

I've seen "experts" state that DHC is the 5th best FS in the draft and that doesn't take into account his special teams ability.

Projected as a 4/5 round pick on this draft

Rhodes as 10th best ILB and projected as a 6th rounder

RE: Dudley Award - WM_Destro - 12-10-2015 12:41 AM

We all saw how the "projected" draft round picks went last year, though this isn't necessarily a fair comparison.

RE: Dudley Award - WM_Destro - 12-10-2015 12:47 AM

Wow!

RE: Dudley Award - Tribal - 12-10-2015 05:56 AM

Yep, the projections are just that. The key for DHC is his elite Special Teams play...more than 10 blocked kicks and a standout gunner. A starting DB with proven ST experience is rare, I would think.

Vad: 29 points, 7 first place votes
DHC: 16, 3
Guy whose name I am tired of hearing: 14, 2

DeAndre named 1st team as well!

RE: Dudley Award - tribe_pride - 12-11-2015 03:24 PM

Anderson and Jones named to 2nd team.

RE: Dudley Award - ttgwm02 - 12-11-2015 04:12 PM

Not surprising. Dorka has quietly become one of the best kickers we have ever had.

RE: Dudley Award - Tribal - 12-11-2015 06:17 PM

Just about every CAA team represented...no JMU player.
