So why is everyone so sure that deregulation will pass? What's in it for the SEC and the PAC?

By passing deregulation, the Big 12 doesn't have incentive to invite another school to join the "club," effectively closing entrance to the P5, and likely all of FBS.

And you think those conferences will allow the big 12 to play by different rules? I don't see this passing as easily as some of you do.

I agree and that's not because I want LU to get an FBS invite. Only 4 CFB spots are available I'm sure that will expand once the current contract expires but for now its 4. If this passes one of the P5's that's not the BIG12 could very well be left out of the CFB playoffs. Not much upside to passing this for any conference not named the BIG12. I'm sure all the conference AD's are pals and aren't out to screw each other. That would be bad business but to put yourself at a disadvantage seems like bad business too. This issue is pretty complex and I can see it argued all sorts of ways. Either way it makes for a very interesting conversation.

If Texas had TCU or Baylor's resume last year they would have been in the four team playoff.

Let's not kid ourselves that you can only make the playoffs if you win a CCG.

How would the other conferences benefit if the Big 12 gets a CCG, when the Big 12 #2 upsets their #1 in the CCG.

Last year all four major CCG went the way of the favorite, that isn't likely to happen every year. The CCG can screw you just as fast or faster than it can help you.

If some day down the road you want to make your conference a mini-NFL and have 20 or 24 teams, it comes in real handy.

It would be nice for the Belt to know before then May meetings if someone was leaving.

The ability to eliminate divisions, which is especially appealing if there is a prolonged competitive disparity between divisions (see Pac 12 North and SEC West).
