No CJ tonight. He's about to board a plane to be with his wife who is having their first child.

RE: North Texas Thread - The Answer UAB - 02-12-2015 04:32 PM

That sucks for us. Congrats to CJ though. He is a big X factor off the bench for us. We will need Madison to pick up most of the slack, most likely. Maybe Sullivan will need to step in and give us some good minutes as well.

RE: North Texas Thread - BlazerGold09 - 02-12-2015 04:34 PM

I'd assume he's out for Rice as well.

RE: North Texas Thread - ATTALLABLAZE - 02-12-2015 04:52 PM

I guess that depends on how quick she has the child.

Thought about that. I'd love to see it happen.

Congrats to CJ. I remember hearing that he got married over the Christmas break.

CJ has been quietly consistent for us this year. I was surprised to see that he is second on the team in scoring and rebounds despite coming off the bench and playing just 19 minutes a game. He's been very dependable. Another surprise is our third leading scorer: Hakeem Baxter. There are six guys who have scored between 158-191 points, so the next four guys are right behind those two. My rambling point is that it might be harder than expected to replace CJ.

Best wishes to him as he becomes a new father! Hope he has learned how to deal with sleep deprivation. Let's go kick some unmean green!

You want to watch his wife have their child?

Nervous about this game.

CJ has been really inconsistent this year, thus his demotion to the second squad after being named preseason all-conference. He averaged 23 minutes earlier in the year, but in conference play, he's averaging just 15 minutes a game. However, CJ has played much better in his limited minutes during conference versus earlier in the year. If he would never leave the low block, he'd be a really decent player.

The biggest improvement is his shot selection. In conference play, only 10% of his shot attempts have been three-pointers. During non-conference, 36% of his FG attempts were behind the arc, and when you're attempting 6 three-pointers a game and shooting just 26%, that hurts. We lost our non-conference games for a myriad of reasons, but CJ's poor shooting and shot selection had a lot to do with it. It's no coincidence that he started playing less, and the team started winning more.

He's only averaging 5.6 points a game during conference play, which is good for seventh on the team. If we miss anything tonight, it'll be his rebounding on the offensive end.

With some extended minutes, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cokely go off for about 20+ tonight.

All that said, congrats to CJ. 04-cheers

That's right, he may be especially tired for the foreseeable future, happy but tired.

RE: North Texas Thread - Memphis Blazer - 02-12-2015 06:12 PM

I wonder if having a child, getting married and all the drama involved has affected his play this year.

Probably didn't help, along with the added pressures of being a senior leader and selected as preseason all-conference.

RE: North Texas Thread - Memphis Blazer - 02-12-2015 06:35 PM

It doesn't sound as if his wife is in Birmingham if he is flying to be with her, so sleep deprivation may not be a problem for him.

RE: North Texas Thread - dirt! - 02-12-2015 07:27 PM

North Texas is dead last in the league on assist, Free throws, and three pointers. Hope the guys have shaken off the yuck from Southern Miss.

North Texas Thread - BeliefBlazer - 02-12-2015 07:31 PM

North Texas has won three conference games. Two against Rice and one against LA Tech. Don't know what happened to Tech that game.

They are last in giving up offensive rebounds as well.

However, they start three seniors, a junior, and a freshman.

8-4 UAB, Lee has 6 points.

RE: North Texas Thread - HSV_BLAZER - 02-12-2015 08:18 PM

Maybe this is the game from Haha I've been wanting. Tosin has a block.
