Tribeathletics.com put up a few pictures of the renovation progress today:

Certainly looks like things are going well...not that I am in any way qualified to make that statement.

So looks like they are keeping the endzone seating. Also, the upper deck seats seem like a great value at 100 bucks for the season with no donation required. Probably the best site lines in the stadium

Looks like the endzone seating will drop from four sections to three. I liked having them run the entire length of the endzone (or it may not be drawn to scale), but I guess they don't foresee the need for four whole sections. Also looks like the boxes at the endzone are gone, wonder what that means for size of the bleacher sections there.

Initially I saw something that there would be info sessions on reseating up in the DC area, but looks like they only have them scheduled in Richmond, Williamsburg, and VA Beach. Wonder if they'll add more later.

From the seating descriptions and new computer renderings, they are planning to make all lower level seats chair-back style, while more central seats will be premium chair-backs (?cushioned?). Upper deck is regular bleachers except for the thin strip in front, overhanging the luxury suites.

Remember "artist rendering" is just that.

The school is really doing this right, as well as all these other projects, you would be hard pressed to find much fault in any of these AD upgrades.

Good to see the question of if the end zone seats being kept or not being answered . Hopefully there will still be a reserved section so many of us will be able to recive the maximum value of our tailgating areas not not worry about out of town squatters on our turf.

Yesterday I rode by Zable and saw work being done on the North end archade and the old concession stand has been torn down along with a storage building . There is a gate behind the old concession and to the left of the Randolph Gate and site work was being done in this area, also.

I was surprised to see that the master list of loyalty points is available on the Tribe Athletics web site. Anybody have a clue as to how many football season ticket holders there are?

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - Blow Gym rat - 05-13-2015 11:25 AM

That surprised me a bit, too. Luckily, my points total was in the "not so low as to be totally embarrassing" range. And, I was pleased to be able to confirm that they actually had me on the list.

That describes me, as well. My reason for asking how many season tix are sold is just trying to figure out where I might be in the pecking order.

#1 McGlothlins. #2 Ukrops. No surprise given naming rights on the stadiums.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - hktribefan - 05-13-2015 12:40 PM

I believe the list is updated annually (since my changes aren't reflected) around July 1. That's also an all time list, so there are a lot of people on there that gave once or twice coming out of school but haven't given since. My understanding is also that season ticket holders will get first dibs to purchase in the new stadium, and within season ticket holders, Tribe Club points determine pecking order. Put another way, as long as you have season tickets this year, you should be okay to get something pretty decent going into the 2016 season. Exciting times at Zable.

I'm thinking about movin' on up from the end zone to the upper deck. I'm a little disappointed that only the first couple of rows have seat backs, but the vantage point should be excellent.

Anyone want to take a guess who will be our first home game in the renovated Zable?

It does seem the kind of occasion they might try and pull in a special opponent.

They did bring in Harvard for our 350th celebration. I would guess maybe again - though the Ivy doesn't start playing until late September.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - nogretheogre - 05-13-2015 05:26 PM

Easy.

Renew our stadium with our oldest rival.

Flip from last game of year to first game. We are at Richmond for 2015, so would be perfect.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - Blow Gym rat - 05-13-2015 08:07 PM

VMI would be a nice choice if Harvard, etc., can't be had. They're about our only traditional rival that's not either FBS or part of the CAA schedule.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - Mrs. Got Ribe - 05-13-2015 10:22 PM

HK is correct. Preference will go to 2015 season ticket holders, using loyalty points to determine the order within that group. So, if you want good seats in the renovated stadium, make sure you have season tickets for this coming year.

How about our first opponent, Norfolk YMCA? Or, step up a level and scrimmage Hampden-Sydney or Randolph Macon for old times sake.

The first game ever played at Cary (now Zable) Field in 1935 was against UVA..a 0-0 tie. It was also, amazingly, a night game.

Of course it will never happen, but why not Virginia for the first game in our new stadium? Unfortunately, the chances of UVA, or any major conference school, ever playing again at Zable are zero.
