There will be bleacher seating in both end zones but with reduced capacities compared to past years. There will be no tents in the end zones.

I really wish they would just have one taller endzone seat section at the South End and leave the Alumni Gate open and in view during the game...open bowl arrangement. Its one of the unique elements of our stadium and nobody can even see it.

You go to football games to appreciate the architecture? We need both end zones full and loud! If you want to see it walk around the end zone seats and look at it.

Yes, i do take a minute to notice the surroundings. Atmosphere is one of the things that brings me to see the game live over watching on TV. Agree loud is better, but a taller single endzone may be just as loud as two smaller N/S bleachers (any physicists on here?). My main goal though, is to start the AD planning for when we sink the field and get rid of the track...giving us a hill under the Alumni Gate.

I've always been a big fan of that idea too. I don't know how realistic it is but it would look fantastic and you wouldn't have to sacrifice much noise wise

These things are possible when you have a 60k stadium and an unwatchable product.

It was watchable for one weekend last fall when we had those f'ers in the crosshairs and let it get away. 30 yards away from victory and turned it over on downs. Still bugs me more than the Richmond loss.

The new side makes the old side look really dowdy. A fresh coat of paint, at least on the aisle steps, before the opener, would definitely spruce things up.

Since the new addition has spots for TV camera mounts, there's a possibility some games look pretty empty. If the opposing team doesn't bring fans, and the students don't turn out, the camera will show a half empty side of the stadium.

You know how the cameras at the Hawaii Bowl and some of those other lower-tier bowls have really tight field shots so you can't see the field? They can mitigate around that problem.

When we have noon games the emptiness of the student section has been noticeable, so this will be nothing new.

I have wandered into Zable recently to look at the renovations and when
I see the East side it looks even more run down than before. It needs a little TLC to say the least. With new radio and press facilities being built, what will happen to the old ones ? When asked about it during the meetings Mr Driscoll said nothing was going to be done to that side of Zable. No doubt the $$$ is not there to renovate those areas to make them boxes or a special seating area.

Interesting flashback to Cary Field crossroad back in 1979. Does this ever bring back memories:

I believe the original details outlined plans to renovate the old Presidents box and make it also a luxury suite. I guess there wasnt enough money.

I don't think that's Derry in the video. Pretty sure it's Tom Rozantz

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - Tribe32 - 03-30-2016 08:41 AM

Pretty sure that was Rozantz. Deery was 1973.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - Tribeheart - 03-30-2016 09:17 AM

I originally thought it was Deery, also, but it is Rozantz. Backup Kevin Odor is walking the sideline at the end of the clip.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - hktribefan - 03-30-2016 10:55 AM

My favorite part of that video is comment that people realize Cary Field was in need of upgrades. 40 years later, we're finally getting to those!

I believe that the "original plans" thoughts/wishes included a modest renovation to the East Side Stands in addition to improvements to the West Side. At one time the plan was to make the entire stadium "ADA Compliant" but this is obviously not happening as the seating and aisles on the East side remain unchanged, also no safety handrails going up and down the aisles on that side of the stadium. Obviously, they were able to claim that the East side stands and the West Side stands were two completely separate entities [for purposes of compliance with Government Regulations]. I am not sure of the logic in making one side of the stadium "safer" than the other side..........

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation - Dr. Ebirt - 03-30-2016 11:50 AM

There will be handrails on the East side of the stadium.

I am pretty sure the folks in the W&M Athletic Department have stated "THERE WILL BE NO CHANGES TO THE EAST SIDE" stands. I have asked this question directly, no "except for handrails" qualifiers.
