7. Baylor (BIG 12)
8. UCLA (PAC 12)

The BIG 12 does not have a championship game. Assuming everyone listed above wins out, Mississippi State will likely get jumped after championship Saturday. But will Ohio State jump to that #4 spot since they will have an extra game (and against a good opponent)? If so, you would have to imagine that since the lack of a conference championship game cost the BIG 12 a shot at the playoffs that it would force some conversations on expansion. And until the Sun Belt has a conference championship game, why can't we follow the BIG 12's lead and schedule 3 bye weeks and have games on "championship" Saturday?

i dont agree that miss. St. Will get jumped by a school with a weak as hell schedule like ohio st.

Miss St has a weak as hell schedule of their own. Look at the teams they played in OOC. They give Baylor a hard time but not a SEC team. Also Big XII schools play one extra conference game then anyone else. There is always talk of teams playing at least 9 P5 schools a year but the Big XII already does that in conference alone.

RE: Will Football Playoff Force Conference Expansion for BIG12? - GaSoEagle - 11-26-2014 12:09 PM

The SEC passed a rule that I think starts in 2016 that for 1 of their 4 non-conference games it must be vs. another P5. i don't ever see the SEC going to a 9 game conference schedule. Basically SEC teams want 7 home games and a 9 game conference schedule would make that harder.

So much can still happen- but if all the top teams win out, I don't see how the committee can take a Mississippi State team, that doesn't even go to it's league's championship game, over a 1 lost champion be it TCU, Baylor, or Ohio State. You know Jeff Long and his buddies have to be praying that some of the one loss teams lose another game.

They can take whoever they want. Just wait until the Longhorns get up into position again to challenge for a slot. Being in the Big 12 with no championship game will be no barrier whatsoever. If the Longhorns were in TCU's position....would they be in or out?

That's kind of what I was getting at. So this will have the SEC playing at minimum 9 P5 teams a year. The Big XII is already doing that by playing 9 conference games. However, ESPN and the playoff committee seem to ignore that all together and says the Big XII still has a weak schedule.

Yes Baylors OOC was weak this year. But is it really any different from say Alabama? Baylor played two G5 teams (Buffalo and SMU) and a FCS team (NWST). Alabama also played two G5s (FAU and USM) and a FCS team (Western Carolina). The onyl difference is Alabama plays one less conference game so they added WVU (who Baylor also played). Explain to me how Baylor is getting trashed for their schedule and Alabama and others are not?

I assume this is a rhetorical question.

Yup. Doesn't help that my brother went to Baylor so it's almost a daily venting I get about Baylor getting screwed. Same from a TCU coworker.

I'd like to see an 8 team playoff that had all 5 conference champions, 2 at large, and the top G5 school. It wou.d be similar to the current setup in regards to the G5, and would hopefully satisfy the P5 schools with every conference getting at least one team. As always someone would feel left out, but as we saw in FCS that wont change even with a 20 (now 24) team playoff.

I would add Louisville asap if I were them as the 11th member but idk who for the 12th.
Probably Cincinnati or Houston.

there's probably not one B12 member that considers those two schools a peer. If we are going to talk wild ass hypotheticals, I say they add BYU and FSU..

Maybe they do Louisville & Cincinnati. I thought FSU was considering the Big XII at one point, idk if they'd still be interested though.

I heard a rumor from my sisters husbands cousin that Texas State would be getting a B12 invite.COGS

RE: Will Football Playoff Force Conference Expansion for BIG12? - Duckster - 11-27-2014 08:19 PM

Cincy is strong candidate for B12 invite. Big TV market and solves WVA being on a geographical island. If ESPN is at the selection table for #12 then Memphis gets the nod over BYU. Memphis is a big ESPN market, larger population center than Utah. Why create another geographical island out west?

RE: Will Football Playoff Force Conference Expansion for BIG12? - warhawk09 - 11-27-2014 08:35 PM

You guys are looking only at OOC schedules; the committee takes into account the full 12 game schedule.

Also, Bama did play West Virginia and people most certainly have dumped on Miss. State's OOC schedule.

Why wouldn't they? Wouldn't they make more money in the Big 12?

Big 12 is a stronger football conference than the ACC. Basketball probably isnt as good but it's still a top conference. Plus they would have a relatively close conference rival in West Virginia.

Aren't the ACC schools stuck in a deal to where they would have to sell their souls in order to leave the conference?

I think so and that almost kept Maryland from jumping to the Big 10

BYU is probably the only school out there that they would like to have..

Rule was put in place after Maryland left, when the rule was made it was considered the stabilizing factor in the giant conference realignment event going on, that being said most of the teams that hadn't moved from the ACC I couldn't see going elsewhere either way.

I dont see them being interested in UH. they are a big school in a major market but even the weak drawing B12 schools usually have 40,000+ in the stands and UH is lucky to get half that..they are a good fit where they are.

UNT has a better shot at Big XII than UH.

Don't think a close conference opponent is that big of a deal to the P5.

West Virginia sure has been complaining about the costs associated with the move. I can see a case for Cincinnati and BYU being invited to the Big XII. I have always thought the P5 playoff would be expanded to eight teams in a few years. Once someone gets left out the whining will begin. Five auto bids and three at large teams should be enough to satisfy everyone involved.

This, I am thinking it will force 8 teams before it makes a P5 conference add teams it does not want.

If anything the Big 12 would bring in BYU before any C-USA team. They have a much bigger and better market and aren't total trash.

Exactly!!! But the front runners are Cincinnati and Memphis. Memphis seems to have turned around their football and they are always solid in basketball.
