Commissiner Benson concerning expansion - GaSoEagle - 11-15-2014 02:47 PM
Benson is at Navy today for our game vs. Navy. Our radio guys interviewed him in the pregame and he basically said when the Sun Belt leadership met this past week expansion was not even on the agenda. I guess the Presidents and other executives from each school met this past week.
I took from what he said that getting a 12th team does not seem a very high priority right now.

I would prefer 12 with divisions by I'd rather wait for the right team(s). It would be nice to stabilize the conference for a few years before we have another batch of move-ups.

As with the last 2 years, there are no good adds that are willing or able to join. After App and GS, pickings are slim.

Agreed. Just spreading the revenues too thin and watering down the level of competition with expansion. If someone leaves then replace them.

I have heard that he is working really hard on expanding his golf skills daily. In fact, he is focusing solely on that and nothing else, who can be bothered about the upcoming possibility Ga Southern may have a spot to be placed?
What a clown. I think we should petition for contraction of the conference .... commisioner!

Trust me, keep that clown as far away from anything to do with your university as possible. He is a destroyer of momentum, and conferences, and a black hole of any ray of sunshine.
The best thing our conference could do as a group of school presidents would be to immediately fire Benson and start a search for someone who actually wants the job and would enjoy representing the university members.

UAB possibly shutting down football is going to hold up any movement by the Sun Belt.
If Chattanooga or Eastern Kentucky is the next pick, I could see UMass being brought on as a 12th member for football only. The FCS candidate will need games against non-transitional FBS programs. UMass and Idaho are useful to that end.
If UAB survives, I'd expect an announcement as soon as the FCS season is done.
